And so it will go ... gobbled up by "money men" who know nothing about magazine publishing and who will preside over the ultimate death of Time and the other TW magazine "properties." -See it happening these days as now "privately held" Readers Digest is in its death throes.

Glenn Beck on the cover of Time marked the beginning of the end for them.

That's a lot of collateral damage from a single Glenn Beck cover.

Time is half the size it was, more fluff, much more expensive...."time to go".

I'm sure Rupert Murdoch has already made them an offer they can't refuse...

Way to make your publication look appealing to investors, put Glenn Beck's mug on the cover! Genius.

My thoughts exactly, but he is the only one I think who would put up the cash for it.

If they spin off its publishing unit, would Time Life Music and the infomercials that come with it be not too far behind?

time-life music was already a spinoff company along ago from this "news"

If anybody buys TW's spin off of Time Life, how long will it take to fold Time? People can be cheapened to compete with supermarket tabloids.

What I really hope for is that they split up all these huge corporations into its separate units. From there I hope it's taken over (at bargain rates) by people who know how to run it. Maybe then we'll have real competition.

But I'm wishful thinking here. It'll get bought by a financial conglomerate, destroyed by it, and these guys will get rich by doing this. The rest of us will be without a product we've enjoyed for decades.

Yes, the newspaper industry continues in its self imposed death spiral. Their loss of credibility came at the wrong time creating a "perfect storm" for the industry. With readers fleeing to the internet and the advertisers following, too many papers have not been able to figure out a new business model that can keep them in business. Mags have always been a tough business to stay in for the long haul and today's economic environment only makes it worse.

I don't think it's a straight line to the Internet. I remember reading a study a few years ago that found people just aren't reading as much. That would explain a lot of things we've been witnessing lately.

looks like it's going to be Time Inc. again-- just like the old days. Sad. I remember when the magazines where the cornerstone of TW's business. Now they're deadweight.

Newsweek is in even worse shape than Time. They shredded their credibility during the Obama campaign, and have done nothing to earn it back.
