NEW YORK — A husband and wife who sell tacos and quesadillas have been named New York City's best street vendors.

Fernando and Yolanda Martinez took first place Saturday at the fifth annual Vendy Awards, which celebrate the best of the city's street food.

The Martinezes make Mexican specialties out of their cart in Brooklyn and sell them for about $6 a dish. They say they're happy to know people love their food.

About 700 hundred people attended the awards ceremony at the Queens Museum of Art.

An Austrian food cart called Schnitzel and Things was named rookie of the year.

Congrats to Country Boys & Co.
Street vendors are the last vestiges of real NYC.
Big shout out to Queens College Halal carts.

Even the BIble knows that paradise is in a city!

Revelation 21 "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy CITY, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband."

Revelation Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb through THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET OF THE CITY. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.

HALLELUJAH, Sisters and Brothers! ! - NYC is the most exciting place in the world - why would I want to live anywhere else? It's paradise (see holy scripture, Word of God, above).

The taco truck is located in Red Hook, Brooklyn, around Red Hook Park. They serve food on the weekend - along with a host of other vendors who specialize in Latin/South American food. It is a culinary treat!

I remember when this poll came out, I'm pretty sure the Country Boys are in Red Hook.

You are correct: Red Hook. They (or family members) are also at the Brooklyn Flea in Ft. Greene (Bishop Laughlin High School - Vanderbilt and Lafayette) on Saturdays.

Um, beg to differ, but no. No, they don't.

New York is somewhat unique in that respect.

I wish we could ban the street food vendors.Especially the ones making the hot "food". It's generates a lot of smoke and it's gross.THe coffee donut guys are ok and of course the fruit guys are ok.

Are you sure you're not "IdahoCitizen"? Because, uh, you shouldn't be in NYC unless you're okay with street food. Sorry they don't live up to your standards.

"Street Food" is a part of the magic that is NYC! Some of these vendors are the ONLY source of traditional ethnic cuisine. Brooklyncitizen must not be from here...a transplant perhaps.

It's not possible you're serious. Either that or you just moved here from out west somewhere.

Best falafel vendor is Moshes Falafel cart at 46th Street just east of 6th Avenue. Open weekdays (except jewish holidays) and at $4.75 the generous kosher falafel sandwich is the best bargain in midtown. Moshes is the only vendor cart I would buy anything from, I don't even trust pretzel vendors anymore.

Does street food qualify for the 5-second rule?

I am qualified to answer that question. Yes, it does qualify!
