Wall Street Journal:

The discovery that Countrywide Financial Corp. recorded phone conversations with borrowers in a controversial mortgage program that included public officials -- and that those recordings have been destroyed -- has prompted new congressional calls for more information about the program.

Rep. Darrell Issa of California, the ranking Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, is trying to subpoena the remaining records of Countrywide's VIP loan program.

Tell ya what... as soon as we're done investigating the Bush Regime's War Crimes, we can look into this little matter.

Another red herring. This is just small potatoes and diverts attention from the REAL criminal activity going on between Congress and the global financial industry.

The disconnect between the problems facing main street and Washington keep widening. For the past year we've heard nothing but talk of regulation, but zero action. What a joke.

good articles... http://www.iamned.com

meanwhile, the stock market is surging and everyone is too busy to counting their money to show any initiative

They are still smarting from the rash of scandals from the past 8 years--Randy "Duke" Cunningham, Bob Ney, Ted Stevens (yeah, yeah--I'm sure he's innocent), Tom "Dancing with the Hammer" De Lay, Rick Renzi, Mark Foley, Larry Craig--and want payback. They could care less about governing, or about the average American, or about the future of our country in general. I shudder to think of what kind of "governance" the whackos who comprise what's left of the GOP would bring if allowed to regain a congressional majority, or the white house in 3 years

Exactly what we need right now, another Republican led Witch hunt. If I remember correctly, Sen. Dodd Dem CT.) allegedly was given a VIP loan from Countrywide. But I'm sure there are at least as many Republicans who received VIP treatment form one mortgage lender or another. The GOP is becoming more desperate every day. Remember folks, it's never a good idea to back a rat into a corner so be careful, very careful when around the GOP

I'm not sure the VIP loans will amount to much. From what I understand, it's similar to getting into a good restaurant without a reservation. VIP's are ushered to the front of the line. If you watch TV talk shows , like Oprah, the good looking people are put in the front rows because the camera likes them when they scan the audience. If the loan rates were between 6% and 7% the VIP would get 5.985% It was done so they would tell their neighbors what a great loan they got at the bank.
Countrywide thought of it as a public relations expense.

Issa is grandstanding; he knows full well that if a competent investigation were to take place, it would take down democrats and republicans in equal measure. Friends of Angelo's was a well known mechanism of corruption, as is the entirety of Countrywide. The only question is why did Bank of America buy them and then make us suffer for it?

Oh my. GOP lawmakers are demanding info. about a scandal involving VIP loans by Countrywide. I guess they want to make sure their names aren't on the VIP list.
