Hillary Clinton ditched her usual monochromatic pantsuits for a jazzy jacket during her meeting with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on September 25, 2009.

The coat of many red and orange colors was decorated with purple and gray zigzags, circles, and lines. Clinton accessorized with a beaded necklace and gold earrings.

We, the designers and staff at Solveig Originals are very proud that two of our creations were recently purchased by Hillary Clinton from our V&A Waterfront store. We are also humbled that the coat (actually named "Hluhluwe Core") is creating such a reaction. The Hluhluwe fabric featured in the coat is designed and woven in South Africa.
We have been making unique jackets and coats using African flavoured fabrics, and selling them exclusively from our store at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, for the past 17 years.
Hillary's other purchase is a jacket named "Namibian Sunset" inspired by the vivid African sunsets experienced in the Namib desert.
If ever visiting Cape Town please drop by our store. You'll be in for a treat !

This is a great look for our Madame Secretary but wouldn't a pair of very sheer black pantyhose been a perfect finish?

Brilliant, about time she got rid of the boring pant suits... Who made this glorious coat?? She looks much younger in less tailored clothes... anyone introduce her to Eileen Fisher - but not the filmy stuff...

Let's hope her diplomatic skills are as beautifully put together as this coat...

What is the obsession with the "fashion-police" and HRC? Jeez, she was a Presidential candidate and now she is the Secretary of State.. I don't care (and neither should anyone else) what she frakkin' wears! As long as she continues to do her job in the intelligent manner she has thus far, she could wear a gunny-sack and it should be good enough. We need look no further than Sarah Palin to know that you can't judge a book by its cover or a pim.ped-out wardrobe from Republican-idjets, who spent thousand of $$$ to clothe her.. it didn't affect those brain cells, did it?

Were she alive, I dare say Eleanor Roosevelt would be quite disgusted to discover that even with all of her accomplishments, she would today, still be subject to fashion-reviews and seen through a prism of how she dressed while accomplishing the historical feats she did! I read that she once saved a newspaper clipping noting how little she spent on her wardrobe and often met with reporters in her dusty riding clothes.. not realizing nor caring that she was making a fashion statement!
What's not to love and admire about that sentiment, yesteryear or in 2009?...

I'm not crazy about the coat, but she is a marvelous politician and a brilliant woman. I think she looks younger than anyone her age, too. She looks good in black pant suits and dark and light blues. Red is not really her color, IMO.

Interesting. Based on seeing her in person, or photos?

Both.

I like the hairstyle and she has a lovely face. She should stick to black, dark grey and navy pants with matching sheer socks and shoes, to form a more unified and leaner line, from pumps to boots depending. She should stick to collared blouses, classic blazers, and a bold necklace on her upper half. This looks like a 70's thrift store find, great for an art teacher but not secretary of state. Hillary needs a fashion advisor to select her clothes, she doesn't have good taste and doesn't seem to care that much, so select someone to prep her wardrobe and let her focus her intellect on the real issues. Red looks great on her.

I agree Caliwoman, especially about the dark sheer hose. But I think the jacket is interesting and a step up from many of her pantsuits. She has never looked more attractive and younger than her years. I admire both Hillary and Michelle O immensely and there is something about their "non-cookie-cutter" appearance that makes me like them better.

I love it. It's nice to see Secretary Clinton in sometime other than a matchy-matchy pantsuit.

I also love the softer, smoother hairstyle--very becoming on her.

Ilike the print but it could have used a little better cut/tailoring.

Could we stop reducing powerful women to their clothes? It's an insult to Hillary and Sotomayor that these frivolous articles are getting published. They aren't fashion plates like Michelle O. They actually have well-defined legitimate jobs and should be treated as such.
04:26 PM on 09/29/2009
Really? What is Hillary up to these days? Haven't heard much from her sense she conceded... kinda.

Guess you haven't been paying attention.

Sort of a chronic issue with you ...

Hillary made a news-worthy fashion change, that's all. I think you're reading way too much in the article. It isn't that serious.
