Sarah Palin Memoir "Going Rogue" Due November 17

HILLEL ITALIE   09/28/09 09:00 PM ET   AP

Sarah Palin

NEW YORK — That was fast.

Sarah Palin, the former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate, has finished her memoir just four months after the book deal was announced, and the release date has been moved up from the spring to Nov. 17, her publisher said.

"Governor Palin has been unbelievably conscientious and hands-on at every stage, investing herself deeply and passionately in this project," said Jonathan Burnham, publisher of Harper. "It's her words, her life, and it's all there in full and fascinating detail."

Palin's book, her first, will be 400 pages, said Burnham, who called the fall "the best possible time for a major book of this kind."

The book now has a title, one fitting for a public figure known for the unexpected – "Going Rogue: An American Life."

Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins, has commissioned a huge first printing of 1.5 million copies. Sen. Ted Kennedy's "True Compass," published by Twelve soon after his Aug. 25 death, also had a 1.5 million first printing.

As with the Kennedy book, the digital edition of Palin's memoir will not be released at the same time as the hardcover. "Going Rogue" will not be available as an e-book until Dec. 26 because "we want to maximize hardcover sales over the holidays," Harper spokeswoman Tina Andreadis said Monday.

Publishers have been concerned that e-books, rapidly becoming more popular, might take away sales from hardcover editions, which are more expensive.

Palin, who abruptly resigned as Alaska governor over the summer with more than a year left in her first term, has been an object of fascination since Sen. John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate in 2008, chose her as his running mate, making an instant celebrity out of a once-obscure public official.

During last year's campaign, pundits questioned whether Palin hurt McCain's presidential bid by "going rogue," or defying his campaign's control.

Although Democrat Barack Obama easily won the election and Palin was criticized even by some Republicans for being inexperienced, she remains a favorite among conservatives and is a rumored contender for 2012. Interest in her is so high that a fan recently paid $63,500 to have dinner with her, part of an Internet auction for a charity that aids wounded veterans.

Palin, 45, spent weeks in San Diego shortly after leaving office and worked on the manuscript with collaborator Lynn Vincent, a person close to her said. She was joined in San Diego by her family and her top aide, Meghan Stapleton, then spent several days in New York working around the clock with editors at Harper, said the person, who wasn't authorized to comment and asked not to be identified.

(This version CORRECTS ADDS background on what going rogue means; corrects Palin spent days, not weeks, with Harper editors. Moving on general news and entertainment services.)

Why is the section dedicated to books spending so much time on S Palin? How about more posts on books normal intelligent people might actually read.

Sarah is an embarrassment to the great state of Alaska and to the entire country. For a “fiscal conservative,” she sure did a fine job of tripling taxes on the industry that drives our state economy. That worked well! Our state will be feeling the repercussions of her actions for years to come. The woman is a DITZ. Making tons of money is not contingent on intelligence, obviously.

Palin, this is the definition of rogue:

1 : vagrant, tramp
2 : a dishonest or worthless person : scoundrel
3 : a mischievous person : scamp
4 : a horse inclined to shirk or misbehave
5 : an individual exhibiting a chance and usually inferior biological variation

Yes, it fits you well.......

Still Loving this country....

If she is so useless, why are all of you spending so much energy and passion writing negative things about her? It would stop, if you would stop.

Hot off the internet, check the "bulk buy, baby, bulk buy" . Google Newsmax Sarah Palin Going Rogue to see all. Free copy with a subscription for a year - or just $8.95, blah, blah, blah. They even tell you "Why You Need to Read Going Rogue". One of the reasons listed is "She is hated and feared by her liberal detractors. Conservatives love her."

I love my husbands response to that, as he said "Sarah Palin is not "hated and feared by her liberal detractors." To them (us) she is loved as an example of an undervetted choice by the McCain Campaign. She is trying to cash in on her "15 minutes of fame" by disregarding her oath and duty to serve as Alaska's Governor (regardless of how she got there). If she is even among the Republican Party's top choices the Democrats have nothing to fear. Newsmax's to aid and abet her to make a buck for her and themselves shows it to be a periodical of little or no journalistic integrity."

Enough said!

Palin said 2 months before she resigned (abandoning the duties she was elected for), the mission of her book would be "...an unfiltered forum to get to speak truthfully about who we are and what we stand for and what Alaska is all about..."

...as if her Facebook page isn't that...

Oh, yeah, her Facebook page has been leased to Bill Kristol and Kagan for neocon propaganda purposes. That's right.

Soooo, in this book what fairytale will Palin spin regarding the child she claims to be her 5th-born? And will she explain why for nearly the entire 11 months since the election she's been seen less than a handful of times actually holding that child (amazing considering her predilection for the camera)?

My guess is that Pal!n has decided to use the Or|y Taitz fake Keny@n birth certificate ploy to attempt to "prove" Tr!g Pal!n was borne by her.

I predict that in the thick pictorial glossy-paper insert sure to be in the middle of this book, we will find a facsimile of Tr!g's "b!rth certif!cate" with his (alleged) b!rth date of April 18, 2008, his parents being Sarah Palin and Todd Palin, and his birthplace being Was!lla, Alaska.

And a sn!de caption under that picture of Tr!g's (fake) b!rth certif!cate: "SEE? You asked, so here it is!" -- never mind that it's as bereft of provenance as the 11th-hour med!cal letter purported to be from her physician just before the election last year.

Memoirs... at 45... this early in what she expects to be her national political career? And it took her about a month to write about each decade of her life, and each one gets about 100 pages?

Is it just me.. or is this likely to be yet another nail in her political career's coffin?

Number 2 in online sales and the book is not out until November. I think Palin is laughing all the way to the bank. I find it quite interesting that so many people who dislike her (e.g. Letterman) continue to give her air time. If she wasn't considered popular by so many people, she would be ancient history with no mention on TV or these political sites. Lots of people still find her quite polarizing and threatening - this the continuation of her name in the media.

As a comedian, why would Letterman give up on such a big joke? She's the gift that keeps on giving when it comes to comedy.
People are buying that book like people watch a train wreck.
Bill Maher is on a roll right now about it. I'm sure a clip will show up on HP.

Your premise that Palin is popular so that's why she is covered is fallacious. Palin is the subject of so many articles, columns and humorists because she is the poster child for what happens when we elect (or nominate) politicians who are narcissistic to their core, religious bigots, unworldly, uneducated and personally dum* to boot. We don't want her or anyone like her in office. Because she is these things and more, that's why so many people view her as "the gift that keeps on giving."

And you shouldn't miss Bill Maher's segment on alternative ghostwriters because you'll see all of these reasons served up with hilarity: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/10/03/watch-bill-maher-audition_n_308821.html

I feel sorry for SP. She seems to be a very nice person, who was thrust into the media spotlite. Now, would I want her to be my President. NO. I don't think she is ready. Now, also, does she deserve to be viliafied like she is. I have stopped watching Countdown and Letterman because this is over the top. No one, and I mean no one is taken apart as often as SP AND her family. Where is the privacy for her family. Pres Obama said it best, "come after me, leave my family alone". Why does that not happen here. If anyone said anything about the Presidents daughters, they would be blasted. But SP kids are fair game. Not fair. And Letterman and KO know it. Double standard by the media, which is getting worse every day!!!!

Well get her out of the media that's easy.

Palin wasn't "thrust" into the spotlight. She has told several interviewers that she had no hesitation in stepping forward to be VP candidate, in part because God was telling her to "barge through" that door.

It's nice of you to defend her, but I doubt you have had much experience with a sociopath (narcissist). Palin put her family forward when it suited her to come across as a hockey mom, but that backfired on her, not because she became a victim as she likes to present herself (Wait until that book for LOTS more on how she was maligned.), but because unlike the persona that got crafted for the '08 campaign, Palin was a crappy governor and an indifferent parent.

Palin is all about Palin. She is a beauty contestant at heart, always in search of the next pageant, the next crown (having been a runner-up). Her meglomania has no bounds so save your sympathy for someone who merits it, not someone who has used every office for self-aggrandizement.

Every day, Mrs Palin is in the news or on the lips of others. Many Democrats would KILL to have the same coverage.

The funny thing is that those trying to hurt her think they are hurting her but they fail to realize that as everyone becomes disillusioned with Obama, Sarah seems to be the answer.

"Many Democrats would KILL to have the same coverage."

They do. You just must not read anything here at HuffPo or anything anywhere else that doesn't have "Sarah Palin" somewhere in the title.

And the OTHER reason Palin is in the news at least twice a week -- 'cuz it really isn't more than that, regardless of your opinion -- is because she does something bizarre, says something bizarre, or someone using her Facebook page prints up something based on neocon fantasy, purporting it to be an "op-ed" by her.

So many Palin fans are thrilled with what's appeared on her Facebook page recently, accepting those ghostwritten missives instead of the daily Tweets she promised them back in July (see, she doesn't keep "campaign" promises either!) -- completely ignoring that Palin's speeches and press releases known to be written by her personally do not have the correct sentence structure, grammar, or spelling that these missives do.

I'm sure with their same unquestioning faith, they'll accept the 4-month book by Palin, too, nevermind that half of it was written while Palin was sitting at her governor's desk, doing that instead of what she was elected to do for 2 months.

LOL. Thanks for tjhe hilarity. I think you;d have trouble creating a list of Dems who want to be mocked, scorned and denigrated for being witless, unschooled, unworldly and bigoted. It's not the amount of coverage that counts; it's the caliber of it. Palin has been vilified for so many dum* things she has said, so many witless moves she has made as governor and campaigner that she has no future on the national "stage" -- although admittedly, other stages may be open to her. Her base is vocal, but WAY too small to win any office of significance (and NEVER again in AK), which doesn't keep the Repugs from using her to extract donations from the gullible. However she would NEVER win a federal nomination again...unless the GOP is sinking even faster than promised.

What’s the difference between a hockey mom and a pit-bull? A pit-bull would have finished their term as governor.

Don't worry about the price. Amazon already has it discounted to $15 from $28. How much more time until it's in the bargain bin? Oh yeah, the first reviews should do that.

I didn't see where it said who wrote it for her? And if it included the necessary box of crayons?

I read that the book's last 50 pages are coloring book style, and the first 350 pages are going to be in the form of a pop-up book. http://wp.me/pBfFK-aq
