Yvette Kantrow: Why Fortune Loves Charlie Rose
A new profile of Charlie Rose is representative of a trend that seems to be growing: the sort of meta-, multi-platform story that has so many odd conflicts and strange connections that it makes you dizzy.

I generally love Charlie Rose interviews, but lost a lot of respect for him when he attacked Naomi Klein on his show. He would not allow her to speak freely about her book, The Shock Doctrine. I've never seen Charlie interrupt another subject the way he interrupted and undermined Naomi. It was eye opening.
I used to watch him but found the interruptions and need to talk over his guests intolerable. His treatment of RFK Jr. a couple of years ago was horrendous and clearly showed he was a suck-up to corporate America. He's just as bad as Larry King.
"[Rose] can carry on a serious discussion and elicit revealing, unfiltered answers without being either a lapdog or a jerk. "
I remember him asking Immelt about the impact of inequitable free trade, and how angry I got at seeing Immelt say "Oh, some sectors will be hurt...", give the obligatory 50 millisecond look of conditional sadness, and then rush on to talk about how good it would be for others...l
Still makes me angry....t
Human beings; men, women, and children - each and every one hurt so that CEOs like Immelt could pay themselves more.
He's business' favorite interviewer because he throws them nothing but softballs.
it used to be there, so that's why i didn't get it. maybe they made changes and i do need to shorten my handle...
they love him because he does most of the talking, prefaced by a glowing introduction. one of my favorite parodies was in "For Your Consideration" - they captured the cannot-get
As far as I am concerned, there is nothing better on tv than the Charlie Rose Show period. I am amazed at the span and depth of his knowledge. His interviews reveal his guests. It's one of the delights of my day! Thank you, Charlie.
His questions are too long and he interrupts the guests. If you want a really good interview, try Rachel Maddow. She's amazing!
Fresh from his victory quelling the on-air battle between Keith Olbermann and that guy on Fox (all in the name of improving the respective companies' image), Rose accepts the title of Business' Favorite Interviewer. It's not about journalistic integrity, it's about being there... for the businesses - Thanks Charlie.
Rose is a national treasure. Granted his world revolves around all things upper east side and the Hamptons, but compared to the rest of the MSM he's a billion times better.
I know many of you have attended elite universities and have had access to brilliant thinkers. No way could I meet leaders of finance, science, politics, and entertainment, but his show is as close as it gets for us regular folks.
True. As a liberal, I share the same assessment as you. Elitists tend to be Machiavellian and corporatist. If you play the liberal card, you will end up debating philosophies with these people, versus giving them the stage to address the questions the way they would in their own environment.
He or his guests may be insufferable to most, but they are not to themselves. His ego is perfectly natural for them, so they respond to him accordingly. I like Bill Moyers as well, who interviews from a liberal perspective. His episodes are generally on social issues. Rose on the other hand, interviews leaders of industry and heads of state - totally different animal.
