Arizona Republicans Say McCain Is Out of Touch: Poll

Huffington Post   First Posted: 11/29/09 05:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:10 PM ET

Mccain

A new poll from Rasmussen Reports found that majority of Arizona Republicans believe that Sen. John McCain (R - Ariz.) is not representing Republican voters.

Forty-six percent of Arizona Republicans feel that McCain is out of touch with his conservative base, while only 36% feel that the Senator has done a good job of representing Republican values.

The Arizona Republic reports that Chris Simcox, founder of border-watch group Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, and political unknown Jim Deakin will challenge McCain in the upcoming primary election.

This is the best thing that has been said about McCain. The average Arizona republican is a fundamentalist lunatic,

I disagree. McCain's perfectly in tune with the 19th century.

Since most people classify McCain as a "moderate Republican", you're comment begs the very serious question of in what century those who believe he's out of touch with Conservatives' views are living in. Surely no more recent than the 14th.

My poor -now deceased - blind and veteran dad was an Arizonan. He begged for help from McCain on numerous occassions asking for assistence through the VA. Dad was a diver in the Navy and dove off of war ships without any scuba gear and as a result his optic nerves were severely damaged.

McCain never even....NOT ONCE....replied to my dad, either by phone or letter after most probably hundreds of attempts of communication with McCain.

Shameful. It broke his heart because he gave so much to his country and was treated like that from McCain. My mom is so bitter and I can't blame her.

He's a privileged elitist. I can't stand the weasel fence-sitter. And all his military rhetoric that he used during the campaign is in vein if he won't even help veterans from his own state. I hope he gets booted out. Senators need to be replaced regularly like congressman so that they don't become neo-royalty like McCain.

Dear Mr. McCain,
Please put "Country First" and retire!
Turn Arizona Blue.

How about "out of touch" PERIOD? This guy tried to put Sarah Palin one heartbeat away from the Presidency of our Country in one of the most troubling times in its history. "Out of touch"? Try "out of his mind".

Can you imagine if we had elected McCain president along with the nut case Palin. Oh my God. For sure America would be doomed.

Palin would have quit after her first briefing and she realized she would actually be expected to work.

John is in his seventies. He has suffered a lot of head trauma boxing at USNA and in his three plane crashes. Then there were the beatings in Hanoi. What do you want from the human brain? He shows the effects? He needs to retire.

McCain spends all of last year pandering to the lunatic fringe right and it responds by biting him in the b.u.m.

Good times.

wouldn't it be great if he lost? I mean if he lost the primary the dems would take the state.

Okay, one more attempt to post.....
I agree that Kaine should go because I have'nt seen him on the national scene since last fall. You'd think the leader of the DNC would atleast get an interview somewhere and be driving the party line.
And, I thing McCain is out of touch (I had said he was t0uched which probably didn't make it by the sensing).

It's amazing that the DNC has ignored Arizona, especially considering how nutty people like Kyl and other Arizona Republicans have been.

John McCain no longer has coattails in AZ, so it should, by all rights, go the way of New Mexico and start voting Democratic... if only the DNC gave it any serious attention whatsoever. It is *NOT* a hopelessly Republican state!

The problem is Rahm Emmanuel and his buddy / parttime DNC leader Tim Kaine.

Kaine has been particularly inept at leading the DNC. He has frittered away the huge Obama grassroots fundraising machine, giving no clear, inspiring message of what the party is going to do for all the voters and contributors out there. He has done *NOTHING* and put no pressure on the Blue Dogs in order to pass a public option for health care. Democrats are supposed to contribute to a party that can't get its act together... or at least make it clear that those Democrats who stand in the way will face all possible pressure, organized from the highest levels of the party?!

Want a public option and Democratic leadership that doesn't give up on states where we should be winning?!

Fire Kaine! BRING BACK HOWARD DEAN!

Democrats can't afford to be led by uninspiring part-timers who don't fight and stand for nothing.

This is a party issue and frankly a troubling one. Rahm and Dean fought and hate each other because Rahm as the head of the DCCC only wanted money in what I call the Clinton states. The states where we had traditionally had shot. Dr. Dean not only told Rahm no, he told him he was an idiot. we spent so much money in states where we had no chance that we changed the map for the next generation. I want to run Janet Napolitano against Kyl in 2012. I think she beats him. McCain... I think he is going to have to go so far to the right, so far against what he actually believes that I don't even think he's going to run. I think he's done. I think Grassley is done as well. Look, I would love to fight in AZ. Love it. But the senate races we are going to have to defend, NY, CA, IL, CO, OR, PA, CT... plus the ones we have a chance to pick up, FL, LA, MO, NC, OH, IA, KY... that is going to cost us about a billion dollars. Seriously. NY CA, PA, IL, OH, FL... that is 10 of the top 15 media markets in the country. The air time in those states and cities is going to be insane. I mean off the charts insane. We don't have the money. We don't have the resources to win AZ right now. But we will. in 2012.
