If we do get stuck having the Olympics in Chicago I hope it isn't like the last great Daley project, Millennium Park, which was four years late in construction and $350 million over budget. By Daley's standards we should have the 2016 Olympics in 2020.

If Daley, Ryan, and the rest of the Olympic 2016 people had just been honest with Chicago residents from the beginning, instead of playing "hide the problems" all year long, public support for the Olympics in Chicago would be stronger. But they trotted out the old "trust us" and "we'll get back to you" crap. And after the parking meter fiasco, NOBODY in Chicago really trusts city hall anymore.

This poll is flawed. Who did they poll? Dalay's administrations? The average person I know don't want the games. Too much crime, not enough funding for education, and too many crooked politicians. The last one alone should keep the games from coming here.

We know that Chicago has its share of crooked politicians. Whats the point? Is that a reason not to go forward with the Olympics, or any other project? If it were Chicago would still be a prairie. If Chicago gets the Olympics there will be scrutiny, if somebody breaks the law they should be prosecuted.

You don't know how this city functions. The taxpaying citizens will suffer from this.

How's that parking meter thingy working for you?

Chicago was never a prairie. It was a swampy area. Hence the name..

Something hinky is going on here. This poll is a Daley/Ryan Potemkin Village strategy prompted by their desperation.

On September 3rd, a Tribune/WGN poll showed 45% of Chicagoans opposed the games and 47% supported them. This showed a dead heat within the margin of error. Opposition was trending up. In addition, 84% of Chicago respondents were against the use of public money to fund the games. Now this shows up? Incredible. What are the odds?

A previous Daley/Ryan poll was countered by an IOC poll during the same time frame that stated the Daley & Associates poll had overstated the 2016 support in that particular case.

Adding poll respondents from outside of Chicago, AKA potential tourists, that are immune from the financial consequences of Daley's pledge binding local families for any losses, is another obvious taint on credibility.

If Daley gets his games, expect a larger shell game and a biblical 7 year drought of dollars affecting city services, while every spare dollar that is not tacked down goes to fund the 2016 insider jackpot.

When some one pays for a poll to be conducted, it usually says exacyly what the payer wants it to say! I wonder who paid for this poll?

Precisely.

Polls in general make me laugh.

Many polls are not worth the paper they are printed on. The poll mentioned in the article may have indeed shown support for the games at 72% among Chicago residents polled, however it does not state the methodology of the poll, nor does does it give you any insight to the sample population.

For example, if the poll was conducted on the LaSalle St corridor at noon on Thursday, the polling numbers would reflect the general sentiments of a very small yet influential segment of the population.

If the poll was taken at the same time of day near Washington Park however, the poll may reflect a very different set of results given that the demographic nature of the area is very different.

This poll was nothing more than a charade.

Many elections are "fixed" in chicago. Now the fix has spread to so called independent polls.

The pol conducted by the 2016 committee is suspect,a better temperature of Chicago would be the Chicago tribune.

am proposing new Olympic events due to Chicago's entry. Let's have the envelope relay race, where Developers hand cash envelopes to Building Inspectors, and then to their Alderman. The next event would be the Parking Meter hop,to see what Alderman can jump the highest over the Meters.

For the main event ,Mayor Daley will carry the Olympic torch wearing a fashionable orange jumpsuit leading his minions into the nearest Federal detention center.

Just for some truth in packaging, Chuck here is a rabid foe of Mayor Daley and finds something bad to say about everything Daley does. He's also not beyond making false accusations in his twisted hatred of Daley and democratic politics.

And track the AP article which cites the number of persons polled. A little over 700 Chicagoans and about 850 non-Chicagoans. All neighborhoods not affected or receiving a contract bid.
