What's Your Reaction?
Roman Polanski

foxnews.com:

Actors and actresses from Harrison Ford to Debra Winger have reportedly joined the growing throng of liberal celebrities calling for Polanski to be released following his arrest in Switzerland last week.

Studio kingpin Harvey Weinstein says he is leading the charge and "e-mailing everybody I know" to push for the swift release of his friend, whom he calls a "humanist" who has been the victim of a gross "miscarriage of justice" for more than three decades.

This blog captures the arguments against Hollywood’s support of Polanski. Read it it is good.

Elizabeth Smart was 14 yrs old and everyone was horrified at what happened to her. These famous, rich, parasites feel that the little girl should be grateful to be Roman's kleenex. They are the very symbol of what the terrorists hate us for. We shouldn't let them. It's time to stop supporting them. And Whoppi how can you defend the enslaving of this child!

I think I'll boycott all of these celebrities who signed the petition. Fame has truly tainted these people.

And if you don't agree with excusing VIP's for crimes committed against children, there's a petition for that, too.

I am a liberal. (I am only saying that because apparently Hollywood is convinced that only right-wingers fine the rape of a child morally inexcusable.) I find Harvey Weinstein’s defense of Polanski disgusting.

Charles Manson also had a horrific childhood. Does Harvey want to let him out of prison?

Does he think that we should only imprison the untalented?

Does he think that charm and the affection of an adoring public make everything OK? Does that apply to Hitler?

Are the filmmakers he is mobilizing unaware of the devastating and long lasting impact of rape on a thirteen year old girl? Are they that insensitive?

Does he think that bragging about using his money and position to help Polanski escape justice make him appear anything but morally bankrupt?

It's good to know so many celebrities think they deserve special treatment and are above the law. Any good they do they seem to think negates anything bad that they do.

Wow, what world do they live in? I don't think they banded together to defend Bill Cosby when he started drugging women.

He still beat the rap, he should have gotten at least 10 years in prison when he was young.

I dont get it. If you're a talented film director and 30 years have passed, you're excused for givng a 13 y.o. alcohol, drugs, raping and sodmizing her? If you read her testimony on thesmokingun.com, she told him to stop and said says she was frightened of him (even while inebriated on champagne and quaalude he convinced her to take). This sounds like beyond consensual statutory rape to me. And as far as her now forgiving him, its the state of California vs Polanski, not her vs. him, plus he was already convicted ... Hey, I like his movies too, and I'm sure he's a better person now than he was then, but I dont see why he should be set free. If he were Joe Blow who fled to Europe after a rape conviction nobody would be rushing to his defense.

These Hollywood actors and actresses are a bunch of tools. This is wasn't the first time Polanski had sexual relations with a minor. He also slept with Nastassja Kinski. Though it was consensual, she was only 15.

But still statutory rape under French law.

If 'Hollwood' wants to band together behind an issue, I wish it would be an issue worthy of their time & attention like; healthcare (or lack of it), a womans right to choose, housing foreclosures, domestic violence & sexual abuse (oh sorry, too sensitive), racism, sexism, Native American rights... shall I go on? Polanski is responsible for his 'banishment'. He fled the US while awaiting sentencing after having pled guilty to sex with a minor. If an ordinary citizen fled a sentencing hearing, they would have been sent back to the states immediately. Instead, Polanski has lived openly & freely abroad, continued to make films (he even won an oscar) & made millions of dollars. What part of this is in any way oppression? Members of the Hollywood elite, especially the females, are a real disappointment to me. Once again, a famous white man, receives entitled treatment that a woman, or person of color would never receive. A girl was raped, the perpetrator pled guilty, he then fled sentencing: end of story. Ask Leonard Peltier if he wants to sign your petition.

I wonder if any of those supporting Polanski have looked at a seventh graders lately. If they had they would know the man is a pedofile and should be punished...BUT he is NOT THE ONLY ONE! The judge who used this case as a political football at the time of the initial trial should be in jail and the girls mom, who pimped her out to secure a possible movie role and took the pay off should be in jail.

I want to find this list so I can boycott all who signed it. Not that it will matter to them, but it will matter to me.

Where were these Hollywood folks when the Catholic Pedophile scandal broke?

Let's assume for the sake of argument that you don't believe that the girl said no, and that Polanski did not physically force her to have oral, vaginal, and anal sex with him.

The priest scandal also regarded crimes that had taken place decades ago. In the vast majority of cases in which the victims have testified, the priests didn't physically force these children to have sex either.

Yet when the scandal broke, I didn't hear anyone say "oh, but it was so long ago." I didn't hear anyone saying "Oh, come on, those kids totally consented." At the time, everyone seemed to understand that a kid who is pressured sexually by an adult authority figure does not have the ability to consent, because a kid in such a situation is going to be so afraid and confused that the most likely scenario is that they WILL say yes, not because they want sex, but beause they are simply afraid and intimidated.

Being from Boston, the epicenter for the priest scandal, I heard and read story after story of survivors that was indentical in every way to what Polanski did to this girl, including ages. Yet I didn't hear one single solitary voice come to their defense, and certainly no one in Hollywood. So why not? If it's not rape when Roman Polanski does it, it's not rape when a priest does it.

oh wait, not indentical. I don't remember a case in which a priest also gave the kid drugs first, unlike with Polanski.
