Hispanics

The Wonk Room:

Today, the Republican National Committee (RNC) released a statement from Chairman Michael Steele announcing the release of a new video in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month. However, though the press release emphasizes the Republican Party's "commitment to the Hispanic community," apparently that commitment does not include hiring a qualified Spanish translator. The Spanish translation of Steele's statement is riddled with embarrassing typos and errors. Even Yahoo's automatic online translator, Babel Fish, produces better results. A quick revision highlights the multitude of glaring errors:

John Leguizamo was correct when a few years ago when he compared "Hispanic for Bush" like "Roaches for Raid".

You have to forgive Mr. Steele. He's too busy complaining about President Obama going to pitch Chicago for the olympics and blathering about anything the President says or does. He doesn't have time to do the nitty gritty work of chairman of the rethuglican party.

GWB can speak Spanish (so we're told). Perhaps he did the translation.

Get real. Bush's "Ko-mo estah you-sted," is not exactly "Spanish." That's like me saying, "Mwha" and then declaring I can speak French. He butchered Spanish worse than he butchered English, and that, my friend, is saying a lot.

Out of touch Republican attempts to attract minorities are always farcical at best.

After all, look at Michael "The Token" Steele.

Why would Hispanics vote Republican? Many, the Cubans for example, come from Communist countries and believe the GOP is the direct antithesis to communism (They are just beginning to learn, that having everything owned by 1% of the population and corporations is just as bad.) Many had their property confiscated by communist regimes. Many were part of that 1% who owned everything, back in the "old country". so of course they vote Republican.

They've had success with the religious latinos, like my parents, in the past. Not so for that last couple of elections. Last time I spoke to my mom, she was completely dismayed at what was going on with the GOP. They are losing even social conservative hispanics.

The GOP hired the person who had been trying to teach W el Espanol as their official Spanish translator/maven.

And the GOP can't understand why Latinos and African Americans are not voting for them.

As a Latino, all I have to say to the RNC is thank you. Thank You for showing us the respect you think we deserve.

Now I have the proof I need to turn my relatives who still believe in your bs.

It wasn't enough when they paid absolutely no respect to Sotomayor. That was all I needed to hear to prove their general lack of respect for minorities..

What can I say? Look at how many people in general are STILL republican.

2.Just print things in English. I know it isn't PC but this needs to end.

Any proud Hispanic, Latino, or Latina should take notice, and realize that they only love you when you vote for them. After that, buena suerte!
