Microsoft Courier

*SEE VIDEO BELOW*

Someone's leaked a video of Microsoft's Courier, the touchscreen tablet that's in the works, and it looks good.

Mashable describes some of the features of the device:

We see a very fluid interface where any item can be drag and dropped easily. The overarching metaphor is apparently dubbed the "infinite journal," where items can be clipped and stored from the web, annotated and highlighted, moved around, and modified with a palette of drawing and design tools.

An on-board camera handles bringing in visuals and documents from the physical world as well. Everything is searchable for later retrieval, with a Courier Pen handling text input duties. Of course the device overall is a touchscreen, and designed with finger control and gestures in mind as well

Check it out for yourself!

No need to apologize. You're in the Microsoft beta flow.

We've seen this before, typical Microsoft Vaporware. Check out this story

The Courier looks like a brilliant device. For once perhaps, Microsoft has truly innovated (with a big assist from Apple technology.) I'm waiting for Steve Job's reply.

This tablet is really cool, but is more for people who are into art or art for an art student . I'm sure at first it is going to be very expensive.

I have a Toshiba Tabliet and a HP Touchsmart desktop PC. I would enjoy to have a tablet like the one shown to read some blogs or web content while sitting in bed.

If the price were right, I would buy it.

You are aware that the 'leaked video' is, in fact, an animation? Not video of a real object in the physical universe...

I tested out XP Tablet a while back. It was... ok. Some people really love it, but there were some quirks I couldn't get used to. The handwriting recognition was pretty good, I have to admit... but the problem is I type way faster than I write (even after correcting my typos).

I'll believe it when I see it. Anybody remember Microsoft's abortive Origami project? Yeah, they're counting on people forgetting about that when they release this kind of BS video for the Courier.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6381789873197028811#

Coincidental that the Origami video came out right around the time that rumors about Apple's smartphone plans were beginning to swirl? No surprise that MS never delivered anything even remotely similar to what the Origami video showed.

Is it coincidental now that MS has released this Courier video when the rumors abound that an Apple tablet computer will come out sometime next year? Like I said, I'll believe it when I see it. This video shows nothing more than a bunch of concepts. It's not a prototype and it's not anything close to an actual product.

MS has a long history of touting its own vaporware in order to stymie the market. Overpromising and either underdelivering or not delivering at all. Doesn't matter, all they want is for these announcements to throw a monkey wrench into whatever their competition is doing. That's a pattern they've repeated over and over, and it just amazes me that the tech press just keeps lapping up their BS and refusing to call out FUD when they see it.

Origami PCs were released, you just weren't paying attention.

Windows Tablet Edition was released in 2002. They supply the programming, and it's up to hardware vendors to create the PCs.

It's always funny when Apple zealots attack Microsoft, because they truly can't envision a company which just makes an operating system, and doesn't leverage that into a hardware monopoly.
