A massive tsunami triggered by an earthquake swept through Samoa on Tuesday, flattening villages and sweeping cars out to sea. Over a hundred people have been reported dead, and the death toll is expected to rise. Some brave people with cameras took amateur footage of the storm and the aftermath, and we're rounding up those videos, along with footage from local news reports in a slideshow below.

If you see a great video or have photos of the tsunami, press "Participate" below and leave the link to your video in the description section or upload your photo directly. We'll feature your submissions here.

Well, this is the future of journalism - completely unverified video posing as footage of the recent tsunami in American Samoa. And a tacky, manipulative soundtrack to boot.

That video is not of the Samoan tsunami, it was from the big one a few years ago.

I can't believe how many posts on HP I have seen putting this on global warming. The ignorance exhibited by some of these posters is shocking.

Global warming has NOTHING to do with plate tectonics. Climate change takes place on a miniscule scale compared to the geological workings of this planet. Please start doing some background research and thinking before you post.

I actually can't believe some individuals inability to have a respectful debate without being offensive. If you have knowledge try sharing it, lose the arrogance.

So your position is "blissful ignorance" trumps knowledge? Another product of our great public school system.

Check your facts, Dhama; it is definitely possible. Your ignorance is shocking.

consider pressure exerted on tectonic plates due to rising ocean levels

I would suggest a basic level geology course at your local community college. Just a little knowledge will help you discuss the issues of the day with more depth and understanding.

Don't forget the asteroid impact 65 million years ago that possibly took out the dinosaurs - also global warming.

Think it through.

Plate tectonics.

Plates of the earth slowly moving and grinding into each other - pressure builds then pressure is released.

Absolutely NOTHING to do with global warming.

The asteroid extinction event is a yet to be proven theory. Consider the more realistic Deccan Traps theory that is volcanic based and doesn't require some extraterrestrial indeterminate. Of course neither theory involves globaloney change. Please consider research before posting.

There are indirect causes which lead to direct causes for the plate techtonic "slides" or "releases". Like melting polar ice caps and glaciers causing rising sea levels.

It's refreshing to see that people can be absolutely wrong on both sides of the global warming debate.

I hate to break it to you folks, but this video has been on YouTube for years. It is from the 2004 tsunami that devastated the Indian Ocean.

I've seen this same video on other "news" sites, also reported as having come from Samoa. Doesn't anybody check their sources anymore?

There seems to be a lot of misleading headlines and content of late, but when you are ad-sponsored, the name of the game is to get click-throughs and eyeballs. That's what advertisers are paying for. Enticing headlines, be they misleading or factual, used to be called, "leaving a scent." Not sure what they call it these days.
