Brooke Shields Nude Photo

people.com:

A nude portrait of Brooke Shields taken when she was 10 has been removed from a major London exhibition after police visited the gallery.

Artist Richard Prince's photograph, set to be shown starting Thursday as part of the "Pop Life: Art in a Material World" exhibition at the Tate Modern, had raised the indignation of children's advocates. The room containing the shot of Shields, now 44, has been closed off.

All those who consider "art" to be the be all and end all of everything take note, all the Damion Hurst,Tracy Emins etc who really are conning People will not be allowed to flourish, at last Peoples eyes are having the blindfolds removed, Ordinary People have never liked this sort of "art", only the arty farty and consider them to be a waste of space and contribute nothing to "art", Just because some stupid and rich person buys this crap for a lot of money does not make it "art", then you get all the University crowd shouting "censorship" and "civil Liberties" and the ordinary person just shrugs their shoulders and let it wash all over them, now the worm has turned and its kinda like the truth is out. "art" is supposed to be uplifting and beautiful and educating not trash and down beat, the arty farty crowd have had their highs too long and now they are having to be brought down to earth, just like Roman Polanski.

Why wasn't Teri Shields arrested when these photos were taken?

I don't think it's enough that they closed off the room at the Tate. They need to excavate it and put in in a salt mine for at least as long as the half-life of plutonium. Then they need to track down all those who might have seen the photo and have them interned. These people surely might be a danger to society. Bloody finger-waggers, all of you. (Well, most of you.)

If it is true that Brooke has a problem with the photo, then it should not be displayed anywhere. ever.

One of the other articles states that the photos were commissioned n 1975 by Shields' mother, who was intent on turning her little girl into a child star. Then in 1981, Shields made an unsuccessful attempt to buy back the negatives. A judge ruled that she was a "hapless victim of a contract... to which two grasping adults bound her".

So, while it would be ethical to refrain from hanging those pictures, Ms. Shields doesn't have a legal leg to stand on, thanks to her mother.

Her mother's idea.

Aged 10? Is she a bottle of whiskey now?

Why would you want a picture of a naked 10 year old? :| And what the hell is wrong with her mother.

I agree what the heck was her mother thinking to let this photo be taken.

Anything for stardom. Kinda like the mother of the now-grown woman involved in that other story with that movie director. You know, the story that's caused such an uproar.

Okay, yank down all the cherub paintings by the masters.
Their cheeks are too rosy and they are draped in too fine a cloth....must be gaudy makeup and hollywood clothes.

I grow tired of this knee-jerk response to efforts to combat child pornography.

See, sane adults can tell the difference between a cathedral cherub and a ten-year-old girl being tarted up and stripped for a photo shoot by her creepy stage mother in order to make "sexy baby" photos to sell to creepy men.

I grow tired of knee-jerk sexist remarks that demonize men as the only gender that has deviants.

The reaction of sane adults to the exhibition is probably far more valuable to combating child pornography than any damage that could be done by the odd pedo wandering into the exhibit.

You might want to reconsider who exactly is doing the knee-jerking.

The problem is Brooke had no say in this photo being shot; her mother approved it. The photographer owns the rights to the image. If I was Brooke, as an adult, I wouldn't like the image being out there either. It's not art, it's too perverse for that and was never shot with more than the intention of being controversial.

The photographer should be ashamed of himself. He is not an artist; he has exploited a young girl in an attempt to further his career. When you do something like that, you're a waste of human space, have no decency, and contribute nothing to society.

Poor baby, or was it pretty baby?

Brooke grew up to be a stunning woman. I'm glad.

Good. Shields has been trying to get that photo out of circulation for years.

A naked 10 year old child in full make up? That's child porn.

Apparently not if her mother does it.

Not always. But in this case it is. They put make up on her like she was an adult and posed her naked in front of a mirror.

She was 10 years old.

It is still not pornography.
It is terrible bad taste, it has no artisitic value since the main intend, according to its creator, was to be controversial.
It is a despicable act from a mother towards her own child.
That and more but not pornography

Okay, it's probably nothing, but what is the deal with dredging up 30+ year old stories of child rape, nude photos, and incest involving celebrities? Then there's Jaycee Dugard and now poor Elizabeth Smart recounting her horror story. WTF? It's like almost every day we're bombarded with these stories, past and present, of young girls being abused or sexualized way too early.

Brooke Shields was totally sexualized as a child -- nude photos at age 10, Pretty Baby, Calvin Klein jeans, Blue Lagoon. As a minor, her mother was responsible.

Was she not under age and nude (topless) in Blue Lagoon?

Good ole Terry Shields.

Those were the days...

Really, I think that Brooke was raising Terry, not the other way around.
