What's Your Reaction?
Sherri

Kirk Cameron's plan to widely distribute an edited version of Darwin's 'Origin of Species'--with an introduction outlining the Hitlerian nature evolutionary theory--prompted a lively conversation on The View Thursday morning. There were some differences of opinion!

Joy Behar pointed out that Cameron wouldn't like it very much if Christopher Hitchens wrote an intro to the Bible. Guest host Heidi Pratt predictably defended the teaching of creationism and Whoopi Goldberg explained to her that when you go to college, no one forces you to take any classes you don't want to take. Sherri Shepherd tried and failed to appear diplomatic.

"Evolution is not an absolute," she said.

The creationist quacks can quack all they want. It's painfully obvious they weren't fortunate enough to be descended from apes.

This shouldn't be a debate.

If society can't use religion, as evidence, in a court of law, then why mandate it's teaching in our schools?

Evolutionary science is the basis from which we draw all our linear predictions in medicine and that is a fact!

Theological text doesn't provide, in any way, testable formuli for us to draw the most likeliest probabilities in nature...

Evolution does and that's a fact!

Religion is indoctrination not education and it doesn't belong in our schools. That's a fact!

This ongoing fools debate is a waste of time. Let's also debate the flat earth idea and the idea that the human body is influenced by humors and bring on the leaches while we're at it.
The good thing about science is that it evolves as new information comes along and asking questions is encouraged. When I was a kid my priest told us all one sunday that asking questions about your faith was blasphemy and a sin. That's when I decided never to go there again.
Doubt and exploration of ideas is human nature and it leads us to the truth. The absolutism of the religious cooks in this world leads to intolerance first and then war and violence every time.

It's too bad that intellectual giant Elizabeth Hasselbeck didn't have the opportunity to weigh in on this debate.

Sometimes, Ms. Hasselbeck does some like a very smart person who compared to Ms. Shepherd. But both are a minority on the show - Behar, Goldberg and Walters are far and above smarter than the vast majority of U.S. citizens. Walters has done a good job representing stupid people on her show while still having enough brains to make it watchable.

And she does the nation a service by remaining us how stupid the nation as a whole can be. The Founding Father were right to fear a pure democracy and I for one would be very very afraid of a U.S. ruled by the mob of idiots that make up the majority.

What...and I suppose "creationism" or "Intelligent Design Theory" are absolutes? Please, give me a break. This is just one more example in a nearly infinite line of examples of how anti-intelligent, anti-science, and anti-reason the religious extreme is in this nation. I hope and dream of the day when science and reason can dominate the discussion in this nation, instead of fear, hysteria, and religious dogma!

Sherri bases her opinions on her various hard won science dgrees earned in the nation's finest universities and her intensive investigation of molecular physics and physical biology.

A woman as educationally accomplished as she is should not be scoffed at as another ignoramus spouting off religious nonesense.

Ooooppps I forgot that she never managed to finish the 2nd grade in elementary school. Sorry. Disregard all of the above.

Sorry, Sherri, but evolution is an absolute. Your inferior intellect does not allow you to 'opt out' of it, any more than being an air head disables gravity above your neck.

Actually, if intelligence and education were required as criteria before becoming parents, most of us would never have been born. And quite a few of us wouldn't be able to reproduce.

Yes, didn't she say the earth being round was also not an absolute. That she wasn't sure the earth wasn't flat. This is no genius.

This seems to be a developing pattern -- the far right trying to equate Hit lerism with left ism. A truly desperate tactic, aimed at the extreme ignorant who won't know any better.

The loss of the Fairness Doctrine and the decline in our education, and the rise of infotainment media helped get us to this point. The marriage of neoconservatism with the Christian right has pushed us over the edge. I hope America can recover from this celebration of ignorance.
