As someone who lives 'downstate' Illinois, I am thrilled that Chicago is not getting the Olympics. Listening to local WJBC radio station, only 2 people of those who called in were sad that the Olympics are not coming to Chicago. Most of us south of I-80 are glad Chicago didn't win. From my perspective, Illinois has too many financial problems to also have to dump money into Daley's delusionary Olympic bid. He is dancing too close to legal problems. Chicago rules Illinois and we could all see the Olympics becoming one more financial siphon off to pet projects of the mayor. And it's always fuzzy how he gets the money; read the book on the history of the Millennium Park project.

I like Chicago. But I would much rather see money go to the city to build up the CTA, to stop the violence (300 people shot this year), to improve public housing so people formerly in public housing aren't dumped downstate (which happens all the time these days), to access to healthier food and better groceries for the poor, and to enhancing public schools. You know, basic stuff.

It's also good that Obama didn't become entangled in what would certainly be a mountain of Chicago politicking to get the Olympics done right, 'Chicago-style.'

My outrage is not from concerns of Chicago residents like yourself who did not want the games in your town and I am happy for Rio; it is the response from the children, Rush, Beck, etc., that is the outrage.

Barely 50% of inner city youth graduate high school.....the highest tax rate in the nation.....one of the most corrupt public sectors in the nation.....a failing public transportation system....and this is what the mayor of Chicago spends his time on. At long last some entity has said NO to King Richard M. Daley. It was long past due as the citizens of Chicago are incapable of doing so.
