Evening Standard To Become Free Newspaper

The London Evening Standard is to become a free paper in a surprise move that threatens the future of the London Lite free newspaper.

The decision by Alexander Lebedev, the new Russian owner of the Evening Standard, is designed to increase its circulation in the UK capital from 250,000 to more than 600,000 a day and comes into effect on October 12.
