Newt Gingrich Topless Bar Snafu: Owners Speak To Rachel Maddow (VIDEO)

Newt Gingrich! Does anyone currently walking the face of the earth know more about entrepreneurship? Or about American Solutions For Winning the Future? The answer is yes, pretty much everyone, including certain species of krill. But what Newt Gingrich does know is that if you are entrepreneurial enough to donate a cool five grand to his organization, "American Solutions For Winning the Future," he will give you an award! Later, he will find out that you are some sort of pornographer and rescind that award. Ha! Remember: Gingrich is thought of as a genius, who may run for president!

As Rachel Maddow documented last night, we're edging up to trend-story status here. Way back on September 11 (never forget) we got the news that Gingrich had accidentally given an "Entrepreneur of the Year" award to Allison Vivas, just a small town girl trying to make it in the world as the president of of Pink Visual Porn DVD Superstore.

Now he's done the same thing to Dawn Rizos, the owner of Dallas-area strip club The Lodge, which I am told is the "the country's premier gentlemen's club." Both were offered an award and an invitation to an "intimate dinner," and in both cases, the award was rescinded. Why does Newt Gingrich keep dangling these affections before out nation's best lady erotic services providers, only to snatch them away? Because he's a tease, that's why.

Anyway, this dinner that Vivas and Rizos were to attend is scheduled for October 7. I shudder to think at how well-stimulated the economy will be the day after.

This type of scheme is typical of many internet scams. Anytime you're asked to pony up money in order to receive an award, a gift or a contest prize you can be sure it's a scam of some kind. I wonder if these two adult companies got their money back.

This is the same kind of scam that Tom DeLay used to run. A few years ago, the president of my company asked me to return a call. The voicemail message talked about Senator DeLay wanting to honor the president of our company. The person making the call also implored us to "call back the senator's office right away" and proceeded to give an 888 number. Immediately, I smelled a rat. I called and discovered that this "honor" was for anyone who wanted to pony up some cash, I don't remember the amount, if it was 5,000 or 10,000. We politely declined. Months later NBC did a story on the scam and how some business people thought they were getting a legitimate federal recognition, not a piece of paper from a scam artist.
So, the Newtster isn't even original in his scams.
