Steve Jobs

Apple is the latest corporation to exit the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, citing its opposition to climate change legislation.

The New York Times reports that Apple's resignation is effective immediately. Catherine Novelli, vice president of worldwide government affairs at Apple, called the chamber's stance on climate change issues "frustrating" in aletter addressed to its president and CEO.

"We strongly object to the chamber's recent comments opposing the E.P.A.'s effort to limit greenhouse gases. ... We would prefer that the chamber take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis.

The tech giant isn't the first company to quit over the chamber's policies. Nike recently resigned from its position on the chamber's board of directors. Several energy companies, including Exelon, the nation's largest provider of nuclear power, and Pacific Gas and Electric have also left in protest of the business association's strict opposition to climate change legislation.

Your logic has as much blank space as your post. Explain please how high altitude snow levels this year disprove the AGW theory.

More like the Chamber of Horrors.

History shows them to be on the wrong side of every issue.

US Chamber of Commerce is a dinosaur and wants to make the rest of us extinct too, but not before they make a little more money on the status quo.

The US Chamber of Commerce has been a mouthpiece for Right Wing interests for decades. I am always disappointed at their positions. Praise to Apple for demonstrating their patriotism and common sense. We need a US Chamber of Commerce like we need another arm pit.

Patriotism? The reason Apple can take this stance is that they manufacture nothing in the USA. What care they if the EPA inquisition shuts down manufacturing industry?

Very little of anything is manufactured in the U.S. The Chamber of Commerce has 3 million members.

EPA inquisition? What are you, Lyndon LaRouche?

The U.S. has a Chamber of Commerce?

Thought that was just for cities/towns.

Typical of the hypocritical greenies. So Apple and Nike have quit the US chamber of commerce over their global warm...er, climate change stance, yet they both continue to manufacture goods using low wage workers in sweatshops and filth holes in China, one of the world's leading producers of pollution.

And you people eat it up. Good grief.

This is true, I was thinking the same thing when I read this.

I have no problem with corporations wanting to green their production, but if you're going to make these "statements," you need to go all the way.

You might be a little out of date glockman. Many Chinese factories are now more modern and safe than ours. China is also investing in green energy big time. They will vault right over us in a few years and dominate the world's market for green technology. You should probably sign up for a class in Mandarin.

Got any proof to back up these assertions about Apple sourcing from sweatshops?

You might want to read this and then prove it wrong:

I remember hearing about the iPod sweatshops a while back:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2006/aug/18/applereportso

It sounds like they cleaned up their act (publicly at least).

'Typical of the hypocritical greenies.'

Apologists for the prime purveyors of economic stratification in this country seem to have difficulty defining the term "hypocrisy."

We already know about Nike's egregious business practices--duh! But when even THEY distance themselves from the EVEN MORE egregious U.S. Chamber of Commerce, we will gladly point that out.

It shouldn't be that difficult to understand. You'd think.

Yeah, I'm sure the "egregious" chamber of commerce is doing worse things than paying 12 year olds three dollars a day to make Air Jordan's

Pretzel logic doesn't work.
