You know you can leave comments on the Chamber of Commerce web site, too. Just a thought.

East Antarctica is four times the size of west Antarctica and is cooling.
Australian Antarctic Division glaciology program head Ian Allison said sea ice losses in west Antarctica over the past 30 years had been more than offset by increases in the Ross Sea region, just one sector of east Antarctica.

Bravo.

I don't think the chamber of commerce is necessary *evil* or anything - they're just looking out for a very specific, and narrow, set of interests. Profit, and not even like long-term sustainability type profit, but right-now-today-this-afternoon profit. I can see *why* they oppose green regulations, because changing the way you do things and using recyclable/recycled materials definitely increases costs and probably doesn't turn any signifigant visible profit, aside from the marketing aspect of look, we love the planet too. I understand it, but I also think it's spineless, because if we can't squeeze the profit margins a bit in the name of changes that could save the planet we're concentrating on entirely the wrong things.

Only the most narrow view of economics fails to find the value in saving energy and protecting the environment. It is extremely short sighted to look only at the quarterly profits to measure the health of a business or the nation.
These myopic assessments fail to include all the variables in their assessments, so they wind up with false results. The term GIGO comes to mind. (GIGO = garbage in; garbage out)

I guess the Chamber isn't going to be changed from the inside.

But are they trying to protect their customers?

Have your Apple device lost or stolen and see what support you get from Apple? Even though these devices 'phone home' everytime they are connected to the Internet, and Apple records their IP address and host computer information, Apple apparently will not provide the last known IP/system information to their legitimate owners or to the police.

On their BBS system, there is mention that Apple was thinking about charging customers $9.95 per year for this service but then declined to do it. Why? What is their motivation not to protect their customers, when the information is readily available?

I won't do business with Chamber members until the head organization comes to its senses over the scientificly validated fact of climate change. I imagine it must be Limbaugh and Faux News 24/7 on their office radios and tv's.

Well, Chamber, there are a WHOLE LOT of us who aren't going to let you take down the atmosphere we all depend on in the name of profit, and you had better wake up.

There are fifty reasons why anyone with a civic conscience would quit the Chamber of Commerce. Climate hange is only one of them. What issue have they NOT been on the wrong side of since 1977?

As a rabid apple-holic I am pretty pleased over this.

Apple has been leaning green for quite a long time now. Here's a recent press-release:

Business owners would do well to remove those Chamber logos, I refuse to do business with anyone that is a member. The Chamber of Commerce is part of the problem, not the solution.

CoC is just a shill for conservative political movements. The local one opposed repeal of blue laws and has been against any extension of worker benefits (such as health insurance). Not nice people.

Not nice people? They are you neighbors who may own a bagel store or pizza place. They are main street. They are wall street...they are good people and bad people...they are people who hire people And risk capital. They are people who are going out of business and doing what they can to just hold on. The are huge banks and people who dress like clowns and do birthday parties! They are everything. This is the kind of thread that plays on emotion as much as right wing radio!
