What's Your Reaction?

Conservatives have been reveling in the defeat of Chicago's Olympic bid this weekend, and Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol was right there with them, crowing about Obama's failure to secure the bid on Fox News Sunday. For this, he made MSNBC's Ed Schult's segment "Psycho Talk." Schultz blasted Kristol and the rest of the GOP: "The GOP's joy in the failure of Chicago's Olympic bid is flat-out anti-American."

Yet another indication of the varying priorities of the two major parties.

The Democrats, despite some inter-necine waffling, want what's best for America.

The Republicans, no waffling allowed, want what's best for Republicans.

You decide, between the two.

Yes, it's become more and more clear that the neocons (led by Kristol and Cheney) are not, and never have been, looking out for America's best interests. They do not want Chicago getting the Olympics because it is a city - a diverse city - and a blue state one at that. Let's not forget, these people view America through the prism of "Good/Real America" and "Bad America."
These people just want to hold power and use government to command its resources (distributing them to the top), and fight misguided holy wars while tamping down on our basic constitutional rights.

It's telling that Chicago is in such a bad way. Maybe Illinois should examine a "regime" change.

Just sayin'

After the Olympic vote in which Chicago lost, one of the organizers of Chicago 2016 was interviewed on WBEZ. I heard him say that the City's wealthy individuals and corporations could not be motivated to raise money for better education and for low income housing in Chicago because there was no money in it for them in the immediate future. However the same people and businesses were willing to contribute to the Olympics because they saw an immediate payoff.

Such is the level of commitment to the City of Chicago and it's long term interests by many of our leaders in the public and private center. They can only be motivated by a buck and now that that dream is dashed , I guess they will pull back and sit on their hands. Chicago would be better off without some of these greedy people and companies and politicians. We need a big change in leadership

Looks like the conservative movement and the republicans just lost a few more votes in 2010.

Taxpayers shelled out probably $1 million or more for the president, his wife and others to fly to Copenhagen and back to woo members of the International Olympic Committee.

A 2006 congressional study pegged the cost of flying Air Force One at $56,518 an hour. The Pentagon recently said it cost $100,219 an hour to fly the huge, reconfigured Boeing 747 without Obama aboard. The Pentagon estimate included more costs for support needs, such as maintenance.

At those rates, the president’s 14-hour trip to Copenhagen and back cost about $790,000 to $1.4 million.

It's EASY to top your "one million dollars WASTED" crocodile tears...

In AUGUST 2001, PRESIDENT george W. bush

- TOOK A ONE-MONTH 'vacation" to his TEXAS RANCH, FBI & CIA "PresidentialDailyBriefing" of August 23, 2001, that AL QAIDA was in the ADVANCED STAGES of PLOTTING "to ATTACK IN AMERICA."
http://www.slate.com/id/2098861/

Bush did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING - not even a ROUTINE, PAPER, FAA "General Traveller's Advisory" for passengers, FAA officials, and EXPOSED FLIGHT CREWS to be on the lookout for potential terrorist plotting hijacks or other threats!

The above CRIMINAL DERELICTION of DUTY was the SECOND URGENT CIA warning Bushie IGNORED...
the first, on AUGUST 10, 2001, when CIA DIRECTOR TENET, PERSONALLY went to the Bushie/Cheney White House,
http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/03/washington/03rivals.html

Needless to say, Cheney & Bushie BLEW CIA Director Tenet off.. they FORCED him to give his URGENT warning to National Security Advisor Rice.

which they IGNORED, EXCEPT to give then Attorney General Ashcroft HIS OWN PRIVATE JET
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2001/07/26/national/main303601.shtml
to keep HIS heinie OUT of the LINE OF FIRE should Al Qaidas PREDICTED ATTACKS go down & KILL dozens of American passengers!!!!

Not only was this INTENTIONAL "WET-BLANKETING" of the ENTIRE multiTRILLION dollar US intel/defense/CIA/national-security/counter-terror establishment...

....but it was PREMEDITATED TREASON as well, Cheney WANTED the TERROIST ATTACKERS TO GET THROUGH, so he would have his "New Pearl Harbor" EXCUSE to ATTACK & INVADE Iraq.

Wanna know why the GOP is so "happy" about the Olympics loss?

Obama has spent the last 8 months of his presidency apologizing for America. If I was on the IOC I wouldn't have voted for America either.

Instead of apologizing for America Mr. Obama, how about trying to sell our good points? How about trying to talk up our economy? How about trying to celebrate the American people?

You ran on hope and change, but so far all I have seen is negativity...It's getting old.

Aww. It's cute that you get your news from Fox. However, if you look at Obama's "apology tour" without Hannity's out of context clipping and cutting, and actually watched his speech in Cairo, etc... then you would know that Obama said [paraphrase] "yes, we made mistakes, but you are not perfect either."
And by the way, your point has nothing to do with this issue anyway.

Where should I be getting my news from? Ol' tingly legs over at MSNBC? How about Wolf Blitzer over at CNN?

Can you point to one other news organization that isn't in the tank for obama?

There's a reason fox is kicking the stuffing out of all of the other major news networks.

"For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country"

-Michelle Obama.

Nuff said.

Well, Estimated "Prophet," you certainly know how to distort the truth.

"Apologizing for America," which you say Obama has been focussing on (he hasn't been) was necessitated by the mess your own Dubya, Bush I, and Reagan made of our position in the world. If we hadn't laid our guilt out and admitted it, we would get less and less credibility every day, and could accomplish less and less against that force as time went by. Obama's mea-culpas on YOUR behalf (since you are obviously too good to have ever done wrong) is what's driving the new acceptance of our policies world-wide. But you are too Reich-focused to ever see that, which is why I must tell you.

You say he should instead "talk up" our good points, as if the world's memory is as short as a FAUX-watchers. Presto, lay out some "good points," and the long history of bad points will miraculously disappear from their memories?

I don't think so. One must acknowledge one's errors, if one wants forgiveness.

Think of the many times we wished Bush had NOT shown up in person. Each time, he embarrassed the entire nation by either lying publicly, by shoving food in his mouth and then trying to talk, by calling leaders by the wrong name, by acting drunk or touching women inappropriately or hugging and kissing little girls so much they wanted to hurl.

PEOPLE.....

We cannot get ourselves all worked up at these neanderthal thinking people! They (The GOP and all of their Conservative followers), are rejoicing about the US losing the Olympic games, after the President supported Chicago's efforts to host them. This childish kind of thinking and behavior just shows what kind of leadership they would provide for American public.

If a project isn't in their best interest, (not America's mind you), they will act like total idiots, jumping up and down in glee like children, who just got a delicious lick of ice cream.

So, lets not wast our time on these people, they aren't worth it. Just keep them in mind, and how they re-acted when hearing of a time of a loss for America ! In the meanwhile, I congratulate the city of Rio on their win. American has been the host a number of times, and no matter what or why, every country in the world deserves a chance to shine! Its now Rio's chance ! SALUTE !

NO IT WAS ABOUT AMERICA.....

The President only went to Copenhagen in support of his hometown of Chicago, who supported him for the Presidency. But, no one is thinking its a defeat to him at all. He's still a heck of a lot better at communicating with the world than his predecessor was. And I don't think Chicago or America is going to suffer because we didn't get the games. I congratulate Rio on their win. After all, every country has to have its chance !
