Rachel Maddow: I'd Be A Bad Senator (VIDEO)

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Rachel Maddow

Rachel Maddow said Sunday on the "Meet The Press" Take Two web extra that she doesn't feel she'd be a good senator.

"I don't think I'd be a good Senator for so many reasons before we even get to policy," Maddow said in response to a viewer question. "I am not interested in doing that. I have great respect for people who choose to pursue their both ideological aims and what they want for the country by doing that, but I think I'd be horrible at it."

Maddow added that she believes the switch from media to politics hinges on one important question.

"It depends, I think, on whether or not you want your daily job to be participating in a big group decision with other legislators," she said. "I'm bad at that."

Rachel, the congress is where good ideas and intelligence go to dye. It would be an extreme dis-service to your viewers for you to leave. Your awfully good at what you do, your not the flashiest or the best rated but you are consistently the most gutsy and accurate. Anybody can do an infotainment opinion show, it takes something special to do real journalism.

kudos.

She's very good at providing facts supported by evidence. Some people prefer republican talking points, which are devoid of both.
01:30 AM on 11/06/2009
it only stinks if your searching to re-affirm your own warped opinions. If you enjoy facts, and a no non-sense approach to presenting the facts, she is the bee's knees.

I just wish Liz (or DICK) Cheney would go on Maddow and debate her on the issues. Why won't they I wonder?
02:37 PM on 10/06/2009
I would hope that TRMS does not fall for the Liz thing

To waste and distract from what is going on now

What does she know - ?

Seriously?

Did anyone even know she had a position in the State Department when daddy was VP?

Who knew this?

Who cares what she spins?

Murphy clearly does NOT understand what Freedom of The Press was intended for.

Freedom of the Press was ONLY GRANTED so that the media WOULD and SHOULD hold elected leaders & others in power ACCOUNTABLE TO THE PEOPLE because it is the PEOPLE's government .... NOT ... so they could use it as a tool to become political leaders themselves ...

Once a journalist becomes a politician ... they are NO LONGER ABLE TO FULFILL THEIR END OF THE BARGAIN - HOLD ELECTED LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE PEOPLE

She got schooled by Murphy. She does not have the chops for Meet the Press. She looked silly at times.
01:03 PM on 10/06/2009
Do you always post when you have no idea what you're talking about, nor even any attempt to support your opinion?
01:20 PM on 10/06/2009
Do you even know what voting present means in a body of legislature?

How dare Gregory compare RM to Beck!

What is that about Gregory?

A bit jealous?

Just about all of you at NBC/MSNBC have a bar to reach- set by TRMS!

That am show is FAILING miserably!

I used to admire Grec gory when he was questioning Bush at the time.....since he has his show he has prostituted himself so much to the R-wingers point of view, that he became obsolete!
Rachel would do much better in that slot but she will never get it because she is what she is,,,honest.

If you've noticed, as they get promoted, NBCers--except for the entrenched talk-show hosts on MSNBC--have to start shifting the tenor of their comments and questions back to the right, presumably because NBC is so sensitive to accusations of being "leftist." Gregory did this right around the time he started moving up the ladder and eventually into the MTP chair.

The reason Rachel Maddow understands that she is not Senate material is because extremely smart people often do not have patience for lengthy debate with those less gifted. They already have mentally sped ahead to the clear answer.

The reason also that B.O. was not destined for a long Senate career.

I know from whence I speak having married MENSA members. (Yes I was not smart enough to learn from the first mistake)

Don't I know it. ;-)

Clearly, with her leftist views, she would be a bad senator. No worse than Al Franken, probably, or Chuckie Schumer...

Rachel Maddow-

A graduate of Castro Valley High School in Castro Valley, California, Maddow earned a degree in public policy from Stanford University in 1994.[12]

At graduation she was awarded the John Gardner Fellowship.

She was also the recipient of a Rhodes Scholarship and began her postgraduate study in 1995 at Lincoln College, Oxford.

In 2001, she completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree (styled a DPhil) in politics from the University of Oxford.[13]

Her doctoral thesis is titled HIV/AIDS and Health Care Reform in British and American Prisons. She was the first openly gay American to win a Rhodes scholarship.[14][15]

Rachel is beautiful(who cares if she is gay) honest, informative. intelligent, but most of all she loves to sock it to members of the extreme fringes of the party of No.

I can hardly wait until her show tonight when she will hang one of the biggest spokesmen for the health care reform opposition out to dry after performing a surgical task of tearing him a new, what Van Jones called them.

Rachel Maddow Rocks.

Yes she would be bad.

The Republican nominee will be Pawlenty and if it is and Obama does not pass health care we all need to be very worried. Pawlenty is a very smooth talker and good looking and knows how to appeal to moderates and hard righties from both sides of his mouth.

t-paw has to watch out though.... he's got a major budget problem here in mn. a lot of money deferred to the next two years that has to be paid eventually to the schools or the bonds may go in the crapper (if universal default still rules in the next year or two). he has to watch what he cuts as he does his unilateral unalottment process the next few months. if he screws up there, he still could be in big trouble. he may be out of office in time for him not to deal with the aftermath of either problem, pretty much leaving the problem to the next governor. but if the next governor is a republican and they find the mess was worse than it was before, to the point of becoming unpopular, it all will fall back on t-paw at the wrong time (just like the "massachussets miracle" hurt dukakis back in 1992).

I loved Rachel on Meet the Press! However, I wish she would host it instead of David! David is no Tim Russert. He makes it hard to watch.
01:39 AM on 11/06/2009
David Gregory is a joke of a journalist. I dont know what NBC is thinking putting him out front. I really loathe the media and news networks in general.

A c'mon, Rachel, you would make a perfect senator in more ways than one.

Rachel does what a good magazine article on policy does, but she does it on TV, in an appealing way, that is a powerful thing.

Most TV cannot be bothered to be so thorough and thoughtful...in fact some of her series on subjects like covering C street/The Family in wake of Repub pol's affairs and her coverage on Acorn after pimp videos were done as well, if not better than, say a 60 minutes piece, with way way less time to prepare and without the luxury of interesting interviews, on site videos, or subjects putting their hand in their cameras, all the show has her and few simple animations...

What Rachel really has going on is a mind, morals, manners and a sincere concern for her country. Her general likeableness and sense of humor helps. You may not agree with her, but she acts like a civil adult and makes rational arguements (with the possible exception of having fun with teabaggers)

Keep it up Rachel...we love you and appreciate you....Arianna, Rachel, Michael Moore, you are all treasures....

Probably, but she'd still be better than 95+ of the current senators who forgot what their jobs are!
