Why does Sarah Palin, now essentially a private citizen incur such ridicule and Late Night insult, the common theme alledging stupidity mostly based on hunting themes and viewing Russia from her window. I will tell it to you straight, I wish that I could be as stupid as her and make the millions of dollars she is making in speeches and books. Sarah Palin is a much more followed and admired celebrity than any of her naysayers including Dave Letterman and soon will be much wealthier at $625K/speech. She just came back from Asia where it was standing room only and reporters were banned and she negotiated a bigger speaking fee. When I retired from civil service after all the paycheck slices and 403B contributions I netted $40,000/yr after almost 17 years, for twenty years I sold real estate after my day job until 9pm. Do you realize that you are dissing a woman who has reached an unimaginable earnings level (She is also a beautiful woman) such that in one hour of a speech she makes more money than I have made in 43 years (My good looks never helped). Alanis said it best, "Isn't it Ironic?"

Only in America. You do realize that the only reason she is famous is because John McCain was stupid enough to pick her as VP? I love how conservatives think that no matter what a person does if they're making a lot of money then they must intrinsically deserve it, but only if they are in public service or certain private sector jobs. Isn't it always conservatives who are harpooning the shallowness of celebrity and how they don't deserve half of what they get? You're right Jay Alder Sarah Palin is nothing but a celebrity now, why is she making ungodly sums of cash, could it be because the people that support her are filthy hypocrites and stupid?

Anna Nicole Smith made a lot of money being famous for being famous. She was also a beautiful airhead drug addict. There are plenty of empty celebrities that make a lot of bank. Earning power doesn't equal relevance, intelligence or substance.

You mistake making money with intelligence or talent. For folks to blindly follow a woman that_lies_so easily and shows such little intellectual curiosity speaks volumes about their own lack of intelligence.

It's true she gets some nasty comments. Personally, I know a lot of people who aren't jealous or fearful of her and don't have any argument with most of her claims. In fact, I applaud her title (bestowed by herself and others) as a "Real American". But then comes the inevitable statement or implication that large swaths of the rest of us (city dwellers, non-hunters or elected public servants serving full terms) are not "Real Americans". Any politician that goes down this road is going to draw enthusiastic fire. And she embraces this polarizing stance whole-heartedly, assigning blame freely for our country's ills, then often focussing on marketing/identity development with terms like "Maverick" or "Rogue".

I'm fine with her beauty and strength and don't begrudge her the opportunity to make a buck. I just don't agree that she is qualified to judge who is "real" (or not) and I'm a little embarrassed at her sweeping statements about my country in international speaking situations.

The correct title of her book should be either Snide and Prejudice or Extremely Low Expectations. I'm torn between the two. But hey, more power to her she's got to make the money any way she can and her snide and without pride audience are undoubtedly lining up to shell out their hard-earned bucks for...

It's a shame she's a woman though because we have enough hurdles to cross without her making it worse.
