Lance Armstrong, Bill Ritter Discuss Bringing Stage Race Back To Colorado
DENVER — Lance Armstrong says he's confident he can help bring bicycle racing back to Colorado.
Armstrong, who has a home in Aspen and has trained in the area, met with Gov. Bill Ritter on Tuesday. Armstrong says he would like to revive the Coors Classic, a stage race that began in the 1970s and 1980s.
Armstrong says Colorado is a natural race venue, with many professional riders and good terrain.
Ritter says the state is faced with a serious budget crisis, but there may be a way for the state to help Armstrong revive the race by August 2011 if Armstrong can find supporters.
