What's Your Reaction?

Steve Martin visited David Letterman Monday night and told him he had gripes that weren't covered by the apology the late-night host made earlier in the show to his wife.

"I'm upset with you for another matter," he said. "I was watching the show one night and saw Moammar Gadhafi's head on my body while I was playing the banjo. Don't you think you should call first?"

There is a clip of the Libyan dictator's head superimposed on Martin's body, then a clip of Martin playing banjo to a bored looking U.N. Back in the studio, Martin really plays the banjo for the audience and he's very good (he's headlining a banjo show at Carnegie Hall Tuesday night!) There are fireworks.

In the second segment Martin Short shows up, and Martin and Martin talk about getting colonoscopies together.

Steve's been into the banjo forever. A friend of mine sold him one back in the mid 70s here in Kansas City.

That was great! Reminded me of the some of the classic Johnny Carson shows.

Steve Martin is a multi-talented man. I've been a fan for many years. His original stand up routine was hilarious. Luv the guy.

There was a guy on SNL 35 years ago that played the banjo well, and looked a lot like Steve Martin.

Wore an arrow through his head.

Not news that he plays well. I live in North Carolina and he was one of many musicians at a bluegrass event here recently. It wasn't a comedy event, It was all about the music. Good for him that he has many talents.

George Segal is also an excellent banjo player. I'm trying to remember if they ever appeared together and played on a show.

Yeah no telling how much more money he would have made if he had stuck with Bluegrass. (*sarcasm*)

You could tell he was surprised the banjo was still in tune after they rigged the pyrotechnics.

I don't know if SM and MS were scheduled, but it did seem like they were there to also give DL some support in a difficult time.

not news. Steve has played the bajo for a long long time really really well.

Mine has a solid brass tone ring. It's a 5-string Morgan Monroe Appalachia model. The banjo weighs just over 12 pounds. Doesn't sound like much until you've had the strap digging into your shoulder for an hour or so!

Is this news? Martin has played the banjo really well for perhaps 40 years.

He's also a magician and a playwright, in case anyone else was wondering about Steve Martin's other "hidden" talents.

Just saw the Steep Canyon Rangers and that he can play with that band is just incredible to me. So glad he's doing it too. And with Ralph as well. Impressive stuff. Of course I love everything he does anyway :-) Oh and People needs to get SCR's Woody Platt for their "Sexiset Man Alive" cover.... whew! I mean WHEWWWWWWW that man is IT!!

Glad to see is still playing the Banjo. Now if he would just give up Acting and making Movies i
would be Happy. Mr. Martin has not made one Good Movie in over 25 Years.

It's hard to believe he was born a poor black child in Mississippi!
