West Virginians Protest For Health Reform

Health Protest

First Posted: 03/18/10 06:12 AM ET Updated: 05/25/11 03:15 PM ET

A small but vocal group of protesters walked several blocks in Charleston, West Virginia, on Monday to promote health care reform. The group carried faux police caution tape that said It's A Crime To Deny Our Care.

The group included members of Health Care for America Now and Sam Hickman, the CEO of the West Virginia Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers, who believes that many West Virginian's are close to losing their health coverage.

The protesters ended their march across the street from Charleston Area Medical Center. Gary Zuckett with West Virginia Citizens Action Group drew chalk outlines on the sidewalk to show the damage he says the insurance industry has created.

"The big insurance companies, in order to increase their profits, they deny care everyday," Zuckett claims. "They block access to the hospitals and to the doctor's offices and to life-saving procedures for people all over this nation. We think it's a crime!"

Kill insurance companies, enact single payer, the best plan for Americans.

I hope single payer passes at the state level.
