Alexander McQueen's 10-Inch Stilettos Shock Paris: To Die For Or Will Kill You? (PHOTOS, POLL)

Alexander McQueen apparently didn't get any of this season's memos about the dangers of high heels. At his other-worldly fashion show in Paris yesterday, the designer sent ten-inch-tall pairs down the runway. Some were sequined, some animal skinned, some were painted and others look made from plastic. Which of these killer heels are to die for? And which might actually kill you?

These are costume for a stage show. To criticize them as impractical is to miss the point.

You know, when I first saw this, i was outraged and thought "This guy has nerve! Wearing his little gingham shirt while he transforms women into crayfish."

But then I read an LA Times article about the fashion show. Apparently, the theme of the show was evolution and the environmental forces associated with global warming transforming humans back into creatures of the sea.

I watched the show's video again. OK it IS weird beyond belief and the shoes are ridiculously over the top. BUT, the dresses, some of them anyway, are beautiful, with stunning prints that ARE all animal prints----just animals we're not used to seeing patterned on clothing. But none the less, truly beautiful.

The last outfit, traditionally, the wedding gown, was supposed to be representative of diatoms in the ocean, lighting up the night sky. I thought that was a lovely image.

So you now, this was actually performance art and if you watch it that way, without the idea that the guy is trying to sell this stuff, it becomes alot less offensive and alot more interesting.

These shoes remove everything I love about the human foot and replace them with what look like animal hooves.

Are we women so incredibly vain that we will pay a man hundreds of dollars for horrendously ugly shoes that will permanently disfigure our knees/backs and feet? Shoes that restrict our movement and make it hard to walk? If we buy these Herman Munster shoes-then it seems like the joke is on us.
I hope women rise up in revolt and refuse to buy these monstrosities and Alexander McQueen has to have a garage sale to get rid of them.

Except for the shoes with the metal plates where the toes should be. Those look like something the young thugs in "Clockwork Orange" would wear to a home invasion.
