The Guardian:

Telling somewhat less than tasteful jokes about weapons of mass destruction has been an occasional pastime of a number of senior US Republican politicians...

It's not yet clear whether the prospect of joining this exclusive club was the motivation for the Venezuelan president, Hugo Chávez, to have a quip about nuclear weapons yesterday.

Silly writer, Chavez doesn't need Republican jokes to motivate him. Stop the political quibbling and face the fact that our elected representatives are busy tearing down the democracies others fought for! Chavez capitalizes on our political arguments, using Democrats to build his power. Whether Republicans joke or not, Chavez is building his arsenal, and it appears as if Obama is allied with him. Obama and Democrats have been instrumental in rendering Honduran democracy null and void. What's more, Obama and Dems are currently working against Columbian democracy as well, with undermining Columbian president Uribe. As Juan Carlos Hidalgo writes in "Dems Do Chavez a Favor" (see the Cato Institute, Nov. 4), "Chávez clearly welcomes the Democrats' help in his long fight against Colombian democracy"

I haven't seen the video clip, but methinks I detected sarcasm. Much ado about nothing.

I agree, and that came as no small relief to me.

He made a joke about Nuclear weapons, as opposed to actually owning 100-200 of them. That proves he doesn't deserve to live, in the eyes of some colonialist-apologists.

From the article:

"Chávez has repeatedly said that all countries should end their nuclear weapons programmes"

Chavez has become a mere parody of himself and now has crossed over to the psychopathic. I only hope he doesn't do damage to other left movements in Latin America.

Wow, on rereading my own post that came out as clear as mud. Supposed to be a joke but that's as least as bad as Chavez's attempt at humor. Hugo's been screwing up a lot lately IMO but I'm glad to see he's against nuclear proliferation. This is a time when international pressure could have some effect on at least reducing the stockpiles- otherwise those who have them, namely the US, look a little inconsistent as they level charges against other countries who might be getting them.
