What's Your Reaction?
Ahmadinejad Obama

ABC News:

Is the U.S. stepping up preparations for a possible attack on Iran's nuclear facilities?

The Pentagon is always making plans, but based on a little-noticed funding request recently sent to Congress, the answer to that question appears to be yes.

The only thing that stopped Hit ler and the Naz is was losing a full scale world war. That's the only way the US and this madness is ever going to be stopped. A strike on Iran will unleash a massive world war that the US will not be able to win nor be able to pull out of. It'll bankrupt and rip apart the union and and put an end to US hegemony.

We will know before hand if we are going to attack Iran because Blackwater will start rehiring and a lot of government vehicles will be seen visiting the American Police Force prison in Montana.

I believe that it's called, "Let's you and him _fight" where you = the US, him = _Iran, and the speaker of that phrase = ... guess who?

It's pretty obvious to me that _Israel is continuing to prod the US (as they've done for the past several years) to do their dirty work for them. I guess they figure we can better afford to lose the planes than they can....

iran is a threat but not for what you think....

nobody really feels threatened if they get nukes, the nukes are just a front for the real outrage. Iran controls WAY to much oil, and because of this they could destablize the entire world, they almost have a monopoly on the oil in the gulf which has up to 60% of the worlds oil.

Iran thinks that because of this, they can do as they wish and get nukes and eventually they will slow down oil production and become very very very wealthy, while the rest of the world suffers, and the nuclear weapons they possess will thwart any retaliation from the US or any other country who is hurt financially (China wont because iran will give them a special deal), no country will bomb them for fear of a nuclear war.

so we need to stop iran from getting nukes now so they dont have them in the future incase they ever decide to slow down oil production........

you think this is just about israel and the US? come on, this is a world issue.

Your "logic" is nothing but a lame attempt to justify theft and agression.

It takes all kinds to make the world go round ... but I must admit we could do with a few less of this sort.

There was a powerful mollah around the time of Mossadegh, whom when the British tried to "reason" with, pointing out that without their know-how, Iranians couldn't extract the oil themselves, said something to the effect of - "then let it stay in the ground". The British were nonplussed and wrote it off dismissively as backward Persian imprudence. They failed to appreciate the same basic thing you fail to. It is their land, and their oil, not ours. Besides, the scenario will be coming when they run out of oil one day anyway (I've seen some interesting dates). Hopefully we've moved to alternative energy resources by then.

This is good news. This should get the attention of the Iranians. Too bad they gave away the B2 but then again it could be for another type of aircraft....something the Israeli's have.

What complete nonsense. And I said the same thing when a similar story about the "impending attack on Iran" was published during the Bush administration. The Pentagon, like any organization, makes plans and budget requests all the time. As someone who has prepared many budgets I can tell you that the wording you put in one has little resemblance to the real world. You always make things sound as if they are urgently needed in order to get the maximum funding, often to be spent on something else. The real story here is that ABC is either completely ignorant about how the Pentagon works or they are trying to precipitate events by sensational reporting.

"they are trying to precipitate events by sensational reporting."

Welcome to the American MSM...sensationalism sells, facts and analysis don't.

By the way, go Bears!

Actually, it was likelier under Bush. He stationed a naval strike force off the coastal waters of Iran and reputable journalists (in contrast to ABC's) were seriously raising the possibilty.

Again, I completely agree with you. And, guess what? I can guarantee you this won't only be the sensationalistic product of the American MSM, but gold to Iranian state propaganda as well.

Why does no one discuss the reasons behind the vilification of Iran. We have no evidence at all that they have broken any law of the NPT (Nuclear non-proliferation treaty). The UN nuclear watch agency has consistently said that Iran is within the bounds of the treaty. On the other hand, Israel has not signed the NPT and has developed nuclear weapons. Why is not Israel the villan in this nuclear war of words? Its because this does not fit the strategy of the US to dominate and control the oil of the Caspian basin. Iran is the stick in the eye of the plan for the trans-Afghan oil pipeline and the nabucco pipeline which crosses the Caucassius. Iranian oil is needed to make both of those projects a "Golden Goose" for the US oil companies. So, we are going to vilify Iran until we have an excuse to attack and take what is not ours. Welcome to 21st century USA.

Also, to be fair...while Israel is not a signatory of the NPT, they are not bound by it...but that's no excuse for them to arm themselves to the bone with nukes.

Very well said.

I have to admit, and I feel like Charlie Brown with Lucy (the US media and government) pulling the football away yet again, that for a few days I took the latest news about the "secret weapons facility" in Iran seriously. Here is an interview with Scott Ritter (ex-marine and UN weapons inspector) on the truth behind that story:

If the US IS planning this, then every penny of that stimulus money was wasted, because the moment Israel or the US would preemptively attack Iran, Iran would mine the gulf and take other steps to make the flow of oil through the gulf perilously slow or non existent for years to come. Think $500 per barrel oil and 12 per gallon gas. Thats 180 to fill up your tank. food prices through the roof. Most restaurants gone. All domestic products and Imports will SKYROCKET in price just based on fuel costs.

This will spark an oil price based Depression in the US that will more than rival the great depression, including REAL hunger, massive joblessness and DECADES of recovery time.

Iran IN NO WAY threatens the US or Israel. To do this would be MADNESS.

So, bomb any nation that might decide to not sell you its natural resources? That may be the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. If not attacked, Iran attempts to slow the flow from other nations in an effort to hurt us or other nations, then that is one thing, however, I doubt they would ever try this, as it would be an act of war against a series of nations.

Iran has not attacked another nation in about 250 years, and maybe more importantly, in another 20 to 30 years, oil will be largely a lubricant. It' already happening. But for the mean time, I would prefer that the US NOT fall into a massive depression, thank you.

Didn't we go through this last year and the year before? If Obama allows this, as far as I'm concerned, he's a one-term President. I contributed to his campaign, put in a major effort on his behalf, and, of course, voted for him. But if he allows something like this to happen, that's all she wrote as far as I'm concerned, and I'm joining the (growing) "worse than Bush" crowd. But I'll wait and see....
