Boasting itself as the tallest building between Denver and Salt Lake, the Blackhawk Ameristar Resort celebrated its grand opening Thursday with Governor Bill Ritter.
The 100,000 square-foot resort, standing tall with 33 stories and 563 rooms cost $235 million and will create hundreds of new jobs for Gilpin County. Its two story casino includes more than 1,600 slot machines, and 18 table games and video-style games.
"Ameristar remains very enthusiastic about Black Hawk," said Ameristar Chief Executive Officer Gordon Kanofsky in a statement release Thursday. "Our $235 million investment in this expansion will generate more local economic development by attracting guests who would be spending their leisure dollars elsewhere."
