Changing The Game By: Bringing people-powered politics to the entire world. Think MoveOn.org -- but in 14 languages, with members from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. As the co-founder of Avaaz.org (Avaaz means "voice" or "song" in a bunch of Asian and Middle Eastern languages), Patel has networked more than 3.6 million people worldwide -- funding teams and equipment to pierce Internet blackouts in Burma, Tibet, and Iran; launching flashmobs in more than 2,000 cities to reboot global climate change negotiations; and running headline-grabbing billboards pushing for an end to Bush-era torture policies.

 
Monks to the Rescue: After a cyclone devastated Burma, the military regime wouldn't let aid workers in to help -- so Patel raised $2 million online and channeled it directly to monks providing food and shelter in their monasteries. 

It's Raining Calls: In 48 hours, Avaaz members in Brazil made 14,000 calls to President Lula -- blocking a bill that would have threatened much of the Amazon rainforest.
