What's Your Reaction?

MILFORD, Conn. — A former Connecticut police officer has pleaded not guilty to allegations he posed as his twin brother to have sex with a woman, and then raped her when she realized the ruse and tried to leave.

Twenty-five-year-old Jared Rohrig of Milford appeared in Milford Superior Court on Wednesday. He says he's innocent of first-degree sexual assault and criminal impersonation charges.

The victim told Milford police that she was in a relationship with Rohrig's brother, Joseph, and went to see him at the Rohrigs' home in July.

Police say the woman realized during sex that she was with Jared Rohrig, because he didn't have a tattoo like his brother. She alleges Jared Rohrig continued the sex against her will when she tried to leave.

Jared Rohrig resigned from the Orange police department last month.

I'll give her the benefit of the doubt.

However, I dated a twin back in high school. No one could tell them apart if you just looked at them. Personality on the other hand... I would know if I was having sex with her sister.

I posted this somewhere, but it got deleted, so I'll try again.

Why do some people refuse to believe that she was tricked by this guy? I went to school with identical twin girls in Jr. high and high school and by 12th grade graduation, I still couldn't tell them apart. No one can say with 100% certainty that they would be able to tell the difference between their boyfriend/girlfriend with their identical twin. Why do alleged rapist get the benefit of the doubt, but the victims don't?

If she was mentally retarded, would it be rape if she let him start and said no before he finished?
YES!
If this was your daughter, you might not make such flippant remarks.
He's a COP!!!!!!!!!
There is no excuse for a COP to even try something like this, Throw the book at him.
No matter how much fun it seems like to do this as a twin, IT IS WRONG, HE WAS WRONG, SHE WAS DECEIVED PURPOSELY
Throw the book at him, and do not let him into contact with the public again as a police officer. Better yet FIRE his behind!

What if it was her idea???

Your assumption that she is telling the truth is childlike!!!

She had a lot to lose if her boyfriend found out!
She had a lot to lose if anyone found out! Imagine this in the news. What would her Parents say?

What social stigma would she have if she was a willing participant in the se.xual escapade?

Don't be Naive!!!

I am quite sure you don't think there is any case where the woman didn't want it. So it is easy to guess why you are on the side your on.

You're right-- don't be naive! Always blame the victim first! That way, you won't end up with egg on your face if they were lying.

Obviously the Brother tricked her and because he did so even if she "consented" to begin with, that still makes it a rape in my book. Especially if when she did realize it was the Twin, he refused to stop. The reason Rape is treated so lightly in America is pretty obvious all you have to do is read some of the Comments from what are obviously men. Even the responses from a few of the women are definitely over the top. Shows just how far the human species is from true enlightenment.

Way to judge an inocent man with your "Obviously the Brother tricked her" statement!! What is wrong with you??? Didn't you learn innocent until proven guilty in the second grade???? Do you need to go back for a refresher course???

What information do you have to make such a jud.gement??? How dare you pervert our judicial system with your twisted projection to ha.ng this "innocent" man.

He's commenting on Huff POst, not sentencing the guy. However, based on my knowledge of the world, I tend to believe the cop is guilty. If a jury agrees, he should be locked up for years and years.

I wasn't just making an opinion about his guilt or innocence, I was also commenting about the asinine attitudes of some of the posters, most specifically other guys, but also a very few women. You're right we don't know everything about this case, but we do know that the guy was law enforcement officer and he should have known better in addition to that there is the point that he had betrayed his brother as well. Those are some fine qualities for a Police Officer. His community should be very grateful that he quit.

When he gets locked up in prison for his crime of rape....he will see what it means when he says 'No' to his roommate. Karma.

The guy raped her because he was bearing false witness.
No way would she have doinked him ifshe would have known the truth.
Was the boyfriend-brother in on it?
I knew some twins and they'd switch dates, but i think thats as far as it went.
Finally, these guys must have been IDENTICAL twins. (rimshot, ..thank you, thank you i'll be here all night)

She couldn't tell her husband from his brother? The outcome of this case depends on how many strokes he was from the finish line. The key to this kind of case where a woman stops a man she's already chosen to have sex with in mid-stroke is this - does he restrain her or carry on beyond the reasonable number of strokes which he might be considered entitled to for having gained her consent in the first place.

Wasn't her husband. She was just dating the (alleged) rapist's brother. And how many strokes he was from the finish line? WTF? I hope you're kidding, but why would you kid about this?

I guess I got confused when reading the article. I thought his twin brother was her husband. I thought maybe it was more complicated than it looked on the face of it.

Whatever happened, it's very weird. I guess I didn't understand the case. I'm just wondering what's the policy on defining rape in the case where they're already in the act of consentual sex and then she says stop.

If he's just about to go for another stroke and she says "stop", he should stop right there. If he doesn't stop and does one more thrust, it's technically a rape case from that one illegal thrust? A man can go from being her lover to being a rapist very easily in that case. It's only a hypothetical question. Was this "rape-rape" or just rape? Or was it "rape-rape-rape"?

"does he restrain her or carry on beyond the reasonable number of strokes which he might be considered entitled to for having gained her consent in the first place."

Are you serious? Nobody is *ever* entitled to another person's body PERIOD, under any circumstances. She is an autonomous human being who is allowed to remove consent whenever and with whomever she chooses. Even if the guy WAS her husband/boyfriend/whatever SHE is entitled to say stop whenever she wants to, for any reason and he has to respect that. If he doesn't, it's rape. End of story.

This question probably doesn't relate to this case, but what if the woman is on top, and she tells him stop. Can he thrust if she's the one sitting on top of him? Or must he freeze in the case of a woman straddling a man who is lying on his back and she tells him to stop, yet she doesn't get off of him?

If she says stop and she's too fat to easily move herself from where she is seated astride him and he's a skinny guy who's too small to get out from under her, but she wants him to stop because he lied, then he keeps thrusting, is he a rapist?

Suppose a frail man tells a big-legged woman to stop but he's too frail to extricate himself from between her gigantic thighs and she has her legs wrapped around him?

Suppose he doesn't want to conceive a child and they're not using protection. He wants to pull out of her embrace but she's too strong. Did she rape him if she restrains him and then carries his baby after that? I'm just trying to think it through like a referee contemplating a touch-down or a foul in a sport.

I contemplated it a little more and I forgot to consider one very important factor. Men are always more of a biological threat to women than the other way around, due to the fact that men penetrate women.

I was playing "devil's advocate" to raise some confusing questions, but I've said before, a man should always stop immediately even if they're already in the act of intercourse. Women should always have absolute power to freeze any consentual sex and end it immediately.

The issue of defining the criteria of rape is a separate but related argument. If a man and woman are already engaged in consensual intercourse and she says "stop right now, seriously" and he gives her one more hump, is he prosecutable? I suppose so, because these cases usually come down to he-said-she-said, and his reputation will be destroyed if she so chooses to destroy it, regardless of the outcome of that case.

Ultimately, men have to remember the better not get on a woman's bad side if she shares your bed or else you're toast. That's just the way it goes because women are the more vulnerable gender. Society will almost always err on the side of the woman. If a society doesn't do this, it's probably not much of a society.

From the first kiss she should have been able to tell if it was the 'right' brother or not. Even the way he touched her in the beginning, she should have known before she even let him "slide" in.

Since we're not his jury, we're entitled to an opinion. And, frankly, this would be a very boring thread if everyone just reiterated "wait and see, wait and see..."

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:57 PM on 10/08/2009

But you will notice how most side with the woman. Do you think it's any different with the pool of Jurors? This is a problem that society automatically believes the woman. In an innocent until proven guilty you must assume that she is a li.ar until proof is brought forward.

What would she possibly have to gain by going public with it? Don't be stupid.

When a woman says "Stop" or "No" it doesn't matter what lead up to that moment.

It means you have to stop, if you don't it's rape. It's really pretty simple....

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:16 PM on 10/08/2009

Actually, I think in most states this is rape whether she said no or not because he tricked her into having sex under a false means (assuming allegations are correct). In other words, she agreed to have sex with her boyfriend and not his brother and the brother knew that.
