Michael Vick

Los Angeles Times:

He's out of prison, back in the NFL, and now Michael Vick is going to star in his own television series.

The quarterback, who took his first regular-season pro snap just two weeks ago after serving 18 months in prison, is partnering with BET for a new eight-part docu-series scheduled to air early next year.

Well, then I guess Charlie Manson will be next to have his own reality show.

I wonder what Michael Vicious' show will about about - dog abuse and torture?

Seeing comments like this makes me realize more and more that people are living in their own version of reality. I understand the outrage and disgust at Vick. He tortured and abused animals. Completely despicable. However, I find it hard to comprehend your comparison of Vick to Charles Manson. Manson -- a serial murderer, child rapist/sodomizer, pimp to child prostitutes and literal baby killer. It is comparisons like this that make me think that people can no longer operate on a raional plane. Everything is an extreme-extreme. Vick may very well be a S.O.B. for what he did and participated in that was torturous to animals but to compare that behavior to Charles Manson? There is something really wrong with this picture.

Do you not find it interesting that Manson and his followers continue to get big time media attention? Every little thing that happens around those people continues to be news. The fascination with mass and serial murderers is a constant in the good 'ol US of A.

honoursplendor,

Vic is a sociopath. Believe me, he could probably off a human being with as much ease as he did those dogs.

I do believe in second chances, but a leopard doesn't change his spots. He's a sociopath and always will be. Since he's in the media though, I hope that he keeps his nose clean and will at least make the effort to be a spokesperson against animal abuse and dog fighting...even if he doesn't believe a word of it.

Congrats on the TV show. You've paid more than your debt to society. Best of luck!

No, he hasn't paid. If this man/beast wants to really show that he has changed he should start a crusade to hunt down animal abusers and slap their azzes into a pen.

What was the point of his prison sentence then? He has paid his dues...time to move on. It isn't his job to stop animal abusers.

"man/beast"? You want to talk about witlessness? Look at the trap you just laid for your self. Dogs are beasts, and you are suggesting that Vick is half man, half beast? Whites have a tradition, hundreds of years old, of associating Black people with animals. Monkeys, coons, gorillas, and so on and so forth. Are you suggesting that his behavior, which you attempt to roundly condemn, is endemic to beasts? Did you show up at McCain/Palin rallies with your little monkey doll?

Does your "love" of the animal justify your hatred of a human being?

I think that unless you are a victim of witlessness, as you seem to be, the answer is very apparent.

What a country!

Making money off the suffering of animals.

Sure he did his time, but this endeavor is associated with his maladies.

It's a shame some in our country will do whatever to capitalize on misery.

what would jesus say?

And all of you out there trying to make this an issue of race........it is not!

It is a moral issue - of what is right and what is wrong - and what is acceptable in our society and what is not - of what should be condoned in our society and what should not.............

A s s h o l e s come in all colors!

morality is really a personal matter. he has done his time and should be free to live his life.

the morality police need to move on , because I really don't think he cares what most of you people think.

I could never figure out what black people see in Michael Vick that is so special. He was never a good quarterback. Nothing to do with his dog fighting thing. He seemed to be some kind of African American hero but there doesn't seem to be any explanation for it.

Sign me "just curious, that's all".

You likely cannot figure out anything regarding Black people. Here's one for you. Black people get tired of seeing whites skate on crimes that involve lots of people dying on the basis of lies. So's not to make it that onerous, you can begin with Tonkin Gulf all the way to all those American service personnel dying for lies in Iraq and Afghanistan. Millions of Iraqi citizens/civilians, and it seems like every week we are reading of Afghan citizens dying in some miscoordinated military operation.

The nation "elects" a drug addled deserter for two terms in the Oval Office. The nation watches the worse kind of war profiteering ever, and it seems alright to all. Basically, if you cannot figure out why Michael Vick belongs on television, then you don't know television for all the time you spend in front of the tube.

So just turn it off. Read a book. Think of all those who are on television who just ought not to be.
The list isendless and many are guilty of deeds far worse that those of Vick. I don't hear the outrage, and it seems to me that TV is a huge forum for those who would just like to say the ugliest things they can imagine toward and about Black people. They get the highest ratings!

You don't like Michael Vick, don't watch. It does not have to be difficult at all.

Go read what he did to animals.

And consider that sociopaths who commit capital crimes usually START on animals.

This isn't about color. It's about someone who did something heinous and shows no regret for anything but getting caught.

Memo to Michael Vick:

In the future, constrain your crimes to things like statutory rape of 13 year old girls. This is apparently a lesser offense (meaning it's not an offense-offense and must be explained and rationalized in context). Accordingly you can expect a great deal of high profile support and defense of your actions, largely based on your talent as player. As it stands now, your crime (the one for which you actually DID serve time) is unforgivable. Please make note of this should you decide to engage in future indiscretions.

Why should he be like Polanski or those other dimwick sex predators exposed on Dateline? At least he served time for the crime. Now get off his case.

I firmly believe that most people deserve a second chance. Vick is getting the royal treatment. BET has an opportunity to bring ORIGINAL programming to TV and they choose a reality show about Michael Vick? Really? For example The Game, one of the few original programs that the CW cancelled to make room for their under 25 TV crowd. BET had a chance to pick up this show, that showcased African American talent as well as other nationalities and they choose this crap?

By the way, REAL AFRICAN AMERICANS stopped watching BET years ago. And WE ARE NOT SUPRISED BY THIS ONE BIT!!!!

the show is not supposed to be a traditional reality show. it's my understanding that it will be more like a docu-drama. if he can put some positive messages out there. then more power to him.

Also BET has some pretty well done shows including First In, Access Granted, 106 and Park, etc.

Real African Americans are still watching BET. :)

Real as in existent, not "real" as in self-respecting. Difference.
