What's Your Reaction?

The cast of "Morning Joe" Friday tried valiantly to find any possible good in President Obama's receiving the Nobel Peace Prize. They failed, but they did offer the president some tips on how to move past what they saw as the awful embarrassment of winning an international award.

"The upside is the European community is embracing this president and saying we like the direction that he is taking this country in and it's drastically different," suggested Mika Brzezinski. She was quickly shot down.

"The upside is the Nobel Prize committee that has had suspect selections in the past has just befuddled a lot of people across the world," said host Joe Scarborough.

"I predict right now that he will find a way to basically turn it down," Time's Mark Halperin added. "I think he is going to say, I share this with the world or whatever. I don't think he'll embrace this. Because there is no upside."

"The damage is done," Brzezinski lamented.

NBC White House Correspondent Chuck Todd concurred that the prize posed problems for Obama. "You're right, will he go to Stockholm to pick it up? What does he do with the money? You get a million dollars. You get over a million dollars for winning this." (The prize is actually given in Oslo. There is a banquet in Stockholm.) But Todd was confident that Obama would survive the crisis. "Mark's probably right," he said. "He'll figure out some way of accepting this in another form, not on his own behalf."

Conservatives have been equally dour on the surprise honor. But some people are pleased that the international community has shown support for our president and his foreign policy goals.

Joe is nothing more than a weak man working for some very, very bad men.

What damage? The Peace Prize is as much symbolic as it is real. Obama represents to many a different style of world leadership. Only this morning my friend from Stockholm wrote, "At first it seemed quite absurd. Now I am beginning to think that it may have been a very good choice, in that it may have an impact." It may have an impact. Precisely. And if it doesn't have an impact, at least Obama will have given another good speech. I don't watch the Morning Show, but it sounds like a male version of a coffee klatch. And what would that be with the prerequisite snickers?

If they couldn't find any "possible good" about the NPP going to Obama, then then did NOT "try valiantly" as the story says.

Nothing. He made speeches. The final voting took place only about 11 days after Obama was sworn in and the award is supposed to recognize an accomplishment over the prior year and all Obama did was campaign for himself and help raise money for himself to win the presidency.

Another question is how in the world so you win a Nobel PEACE Prize when you are the Commander-In-Chief over not one but two WARS? That's peace?

Clarity and cognizance not your strong points? The nominations ended in February. The final votes were cast in September. " the award is supposed to recognize an accomplishment over the prior year" Really?

What's next? Re-writing anything by Newton?

As the committee and most people have noted, Obama overcame amazing odds to be elected to lead the world's super power and change its direction of bullying and intimidation onto a path toward peace and an end to nuclear proliferation. It is the fundamental basis for the PEACE prize. Get over it already.

Name someone who has won the prize who has actually achieved world peace.

No one has achieved world peace. Therefore your smartass comment just makes you appear to be a clown. At least Obama gives the impression that he's interested in something other than killing people, unlike a certain shrublike predecessor.

No upside? Don't be so disingenuous Joe. It gives you yet another absolutely pointless thing to drone on and on about.

Folks: The prize is about potential. To acheive this peace ALL parties, in that I mean Iran, Korea, the crowd in the mid east ( the list is long) got to get up off their butts, for once, and start focusing on what it is all about, the qaliity of live of the people they lead.

Though not that many Americans watch BBC news, I did the morning that Obama was declared the winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. The news anchor had a balanced reporting in which he asked the opinions of those who are for and against Obama receiving the prize.

I literally almost fell off my seat when a GOP blogger, with the State Capitol in the background, said that GEORGE W. BUSH SHOULD RECEIVE THE NOBEL PRIZE for bringing freedom to Iraq, and that Obama does not deserve it since he is nothing but hollow words (the usual GOP label that is attached to the President). That's the most shocking thing I ever heard on television, so far.

And precisely how could the Nobel Prize for peace be a crisis for Obama? He had been through a lot more criticisms in the past from being called a Nazi and the like. He never budged. And where are all those ranting people now?

And everybody knows that Obama would donate the $1 million dollar prize to charity. It's THAT obvious.

The GOP says that Obama will spend the prize money on 26" rims for his '85 Monte Carlo.

(Well they didn't actually SAY that but they are probably thinking it).

Putting aside for a minute all the damage, disaster, and shame (oh, the shame) of being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize....

No one has ever "achieved world peace"--not even Christ would win the
Nobel Peace Prize if it were for "accomplishing" peace, an end to
wars, the elimination of conflict....

What Obama did, from the morning he entered the White House, was
change the environment for the whole world regarding the prospects for
peace, regarding peaceful diplomatic resolutions, regarding respecting
world treaties and agreements, regarding respecting the peoples of the
world, regarding what had til then been the hooligan use of weapons.

Obama did EXACTLY what is the mission of a Nobel Peace Prize laureate:
he made straight the path toward peace.

Mr. " When I was in Congress" wrote that letter here last week praising the President, I knew it was a lie. He fooled a lot of people. Please let this man run for president for the GOP. Please, please, please. Thank you President Obama. You deserve this award. God bless this great man.

Scarborough and Brzezinski are not only fearmongers but find fault and never favor. The damage is done? Yes, I agree you both have done a lot of damage with your own righteous. And I'm not tuning in anymore the GMJ. I enjoy Chris Matthews, Ed show, Keith and Rachel. The GMJ show will be boycotted.
