Lauren Graham Replaces Maura Tierney In 'Parenthood'

NEW YORK — NBC Universal is confirming that Lauren Graham has joined the cast of NBC's upcoming series "Parenthood."

Graham, best known from the longrunning "Gilmore Girls," steps into the "Parenthood" ensemble as a replacement for Maura Tierney (MOHR'-uh TEER'-nee). Tierney was forced to drop out of the series this summer after being diagnosed with breast cancer, for which she continues to get treatment.

Originally slotted for a fall premiere, "Parenthood" is now set to debut in early 2010. NBC said Monday that production begins in mid-November.

Also starring Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia and Mae Whitman, the series is based on the 1989 movie that starred Steve Martin.

Graham is a fine actress and will do an excellent job in the role.
I am however, disappointed that Maura Tierney was forced, for medical reasons, to pull out.
I eagerly await her return in a new project, healthy and better than ever.

Have nothing against Lauren Graham, and bet Maura was the first person saying to recast since she had better things to worry about. Still, would watch anything with Maura in it, and now won't watch, for sure. Maura was the only drawing card to me. Attention networks - find Maura something funny and romantic to star in once she's on the mend.

Really! I love watching Maura Tierney but would love to see her in something lighter. Her Abbey character on ER always went through such miles of crap! Give the girl a break once she's up for it!

This makes me sad...I HATE cancer...don't yet consider myself a survivor since treatment was ended less than 5 months ago...I think almost daily of Maura...and fear hers is an aggressive type, ergo..she had to completely drop out...some actors have a lumpectomy...maybe some radiation..then...a good to go (Cheryl Crowe, Christiana Applegate)...doesn't make their cancer less frightening...but their treatment is short... I always loved Maura on ER...and feel so much for what she is going through today, as we speak....I'm happy for Lauren...don't really know her (never watched Gilmore girls)...but I'd guess she'd rather have gotten this role any other way...

As one of many loyal Gilmore fans, I am thrilled. The cast, and the storylines were all outstanding. Lauren and Alexis made me realize how it could be between parent and child.

I had a co-worker that I didn't particularly like and found nothing in common with until we both found out that we were Gilmore Girls fans. We became friends and shared a lot because we had those country town values of the show. This co-worker pasted away several years ago before the Gilmore Girls went off air.

I came about Gilmore Girls in a truly confusing way. It was on an STL affiliate every day, reruns, and I started watching it in the middle of one of the seasons. At the same time, it was on ABC family, reruns every day, and I picked that up too (but was at a different place in the series than the STL affiliate). At the same time of all of that, it was still on WB with new episodes. AND I ended up buying the seasons on DVD and starting at the beginning of the series. I didn't know if I was coming or going!

I think you just named every interchangeable actress on Grey's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, all the sitcoms where the bonehead fat slob husband has a pretty and thin wife, and every indistinguishable actress on the crime shows. Graham is beautiful, talented and consistently underrated. She absolutely stands out from the crowd.
