Obama Snl

"Saturday Night Live" opened last night with a sketch mocking the president's good fortune, starting with his Nobel Peace Prize win:

"This prize bestowed by the Nobel committee in Norway is given annually to individuals who have made significant contributions to world peace. Jimmy Carter won it for decades of trying to find solutions to international conflicts, Al Gore won it for his years of education [the] U.S. about climate change, and us? Well, I won it for not being George Bush."

Obama (played by Fred Armisen) went on to announce that he had won the Powerball lottery jackpot as well. "The funny thing is it's the first Powerball ticket I've ever bought. I was driving Sasha and Malia home from school and we stopped at a 7/11 for sodas. We all chose two numbers and there you have it: $70 million."

This sketch comes just a week after SNL opened with a particularly harsh critique of the president's failed promises, which featured a list that had "NOT DONE" checked off next to the following categories: global warming, immigration reform, limits on executive powers, torture prosecutions, closing Gitmo, withdrawing from Iraq, improving the status of the fight in Afghanistan, health care reform, etc.

Of course, if the president were truly as lucky as SNL is making him out to be he probably wouldn't have taken office saddled with an economic crisis and two wars.

I love Obama
I love that he won the Peace Prize, even if it was because he's not Bush!

I think its a riot!! And here's where all you libs fail the test: you laughed like crazy at Bush, Palin and Cheney shticks, but now are aghast at Obama skits--they were ALL funny!! Here's what you should be pissed at; this is the second time (Gore being the first) that the Nobel socialists are (attempting to) meddling in our affairs. This time they're trying to force Obama's hand in Afghanistan and Iraq. As we get further from Bush, you will see that the rest of the world is just jealous of our success and freedom, and Pres Obama will come to the reality that we do what's in our interest, that's all. By the way, did you hear the news??? the President went to a college football game this weekend-----------so they just awarded him the Heisman Trophy!!! Woohooo!!!!

I hate to say it because I like Obama, but that first sketch was funny as heck. The guy had the mannerisms down perfectly. I know the opposition would run with the 'did nothing' part, I disagree with that. But I was laughing the whole time.

Wow..I may start watching SNL again. It wasn't funny continually bashing Palin and Bush well into Obama's greenhorn inflation creating presidency. Armisen does a good job..with his ears pushed forward, etc. He really should have teleprompters attached to him at the hip though...that would be funnier.

Hey...did Obama win the Mr. Olympia bodybuilding competition? Sure, Obama's a 'skinny girly-man' according to Schwarzenegger, but there's potential. Obama could beef up and look like the black president in Idiocracy carrying a machine gun. This would have made a good skit as well.

the difference with Obama impersonation and Sarah Palin's impersonation is that Palin words were verbetim. She didn't have to made fun of, she did it herself. Nice try poser. You didn't even get the joke.

I'm glad to see the satirists starting to do their job. When the great Mort Sahl was asked if he ever gave a President a break he said, "Yeah. I wait till his hand drops." This guy's gotten a free ride.

Every time Fred Armisen does his mediocre Obama impression, Lorne Michaels should be ashamed. It's not Fred's fault- he's talented and is a really nice guy. It's Lorne Michael's fault. There areso many amateur and professional performers on YouTube and elsewhere online that just PUT TO SHAME anything Lorne's guys have done in terms of Obama. It's just sad. GET A BLACK PERSON TO PLAY THE FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT, LORNE. Pathetic.

It would HELP if Fred could imitate Obama's SPEECH, and not just look kinda like him in makeup. I heard just the audio from one of those bits, & he wasn't even trying to come close. Might as well get Chevy back.

What happened to his impression of Obama? It seemed better during the campaign. Now he sounds like a 14 year-old.

He is absolutely correct. He should have the Nobel Prize for just not being George Bush. The best accomplishment in the last eight years.

President Obama deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for returning the greatest, strongest nation in the world to once again representing truth, compassion, fairness and respect. There is no better or stronger person on the national stage today. I congratulate our wonderful President and I applaud all of us intelligent Americans for choosing so wisely this time. What a relief from the hate-monger George W. Bush.....What a relief to us and what a relief to the stability of the world! THAT is why he is so deserving of this honor.
America should celebrate right along with our President.

Obama is a good man and I hope he becomes a great president, but at school they don't give me an "A" for for not completing my assignments. MLK and Mother Teresa labored long and hard for years in a selfless calling to help their fellow man/women. Politics aside giving the Noble Prize to Obama at this point really does look bad and is not yet deserved .

Art imitating reality. Not really. Reality is imitating art. Obama's administration has become an SNL skit.

Armisen is a bad actor. The skit wouldve been funnier had he accurately impersonated Obama.

When the President is elected supporters of his should expect he will get joked about by the comedy world. All Presidents have been but of course you think Obama is above this or anything critical of him. Get a life weenies.

SNL's still part of the comedy world?

Speaking for myself, yes I know that presidents get joked about, and I expect that, but SNL was just bad, period.

I don't think Obama is above criticism (nor am I a "weenie"), but why do people tell people who may disagree with them to "get a life"? It doesn't even make sense.

They could have done more to mention the failures of Summers, Geithner, Bernanke.
