(AP) TOLEDO, Ohio -- A wild shootout involving at least five gunmen sent patrons fleeing from a northwestern Ohio bar near the University of Toledo campus. No injuries were reported.

The gunfire inside and outside the Route 66 Kitchen in Toledo lasted for several minutes Thursday night and was captured on a video surveillance system.

Footage from the three-minute video shows a fight break out at the crowded bar. The incident then turns into a shootout, with men pulling out guns and firing at individuals beyond the range of cameras. Video from the outside of the bar shows a man firing a gun inside the establishment through a door.

Seventeen shell casings were found on the ground or floor at the bar, and the front door was riddled with bullet holes.

The fight apparently began when a bar employee asked a man who was trying to sell marijuana to leave, Deputy Police Chief Don Kenney told the Toledo Blade.

Police were still looking for suspects Sunday and no arrests have been made. Police say they don't believe any University of Toledo students were involved in the shooting near the campus.

Ahhh, yes.

The heady and delicious mixture of gunnuts, alcohol and guns. A recipe for fun and excitement.

Would there have been shooting if not for the drinking? Likely, no.

Not your typical gun n.uts, these were more like thug wannabees and pretend ganstas. And yeah, sans alcohol, there would still have been a shooting.

For those unfamiliar with gun nut-speak, thug wannabes and ganstas {sic} are NRA-speak for non-whites.

OE also pretends there would have been a shooting sans alcohol. This is really a far-fetched claim. You don't have to be an MD to know alcohol reduces inhibitions and quite often heightens hostility. That's why you find bouncers at bars--not at McDonalds.

If they hadn't been drinking, would they still have been shooting?

There has to be a 10,000 dollar fine for being in possession of an unregistered firearm.

Is it not possible to shoot a registered gun in a bar?

I believe you can get up to 5 years in prison for illegally carrying a concealed weapon. Also most states have mandatory additional sentences of several years for using a firearm in the commission of a crime.

Some states take it farther with an additional year for each bullet found in the magazine. At least this was the case when I was growing up in Hartford, CT.

Most states, including Ohio, do not require firearms to be registered. Further, registration is no deterrent to crimes involving firearms.

I get more proud of my country every day......... gotta love it. Now if we were ALL armed this world would be soooo much safer.

I hope the Arizona legislature is paying attention because these weren't even legal guns in bars. Just think how much easier it would have been had they been able to have their guns right out on the bar or table tops. Easy access. I just don't get that you can't have cigarettes in bars and restaurants because it might cause harm to othe patrons or workers.... but guns, hey, that's just fine. Alrighty then.

Your point does not make any since. There was a law against guns in a bar in Ohio and it did not stop anyone in theis case.

Also it is legal to possess cigarettes in a bar but illegal to smoke them just like in Arizona it is legal to possess a gun in a bar but illegal to fire it.

According to the article, this was a "wild" shootout. Perhaps, if it would have been a "tame" shootout, things might have turned out differently?

Better yet, how about NO "shootouts" in the first place?

...and not a one of them on camera has a clue how to use their piece, which is what makes it so dangerous. These guys are acting like they just walked off the set of a rap video.

There's only one word to describe this: incompetence!
They are incompetent in everything they do.
Can't do the wars right in Iraq and Afghanistan. Can't even shoot straight in a bar fight.
It's a shame they are allowed to carry guns. They are a disgrace to all licensed gun owners.

Would licensed gun owners shoot more accurately in a bar fight?

What an exciting night.
Now can anyone here give me an estimate of the number of those folks that legally owned their firearm. Were they registered guns on people with permits for concealed weapons? Or just criminals that don't care either way?

Frankly, if it were up to me, I would repeal the Second Amendment and ban private ownership of _firearms altogether.

So you want only the government to have the power to kill? That doesn't work out well in most places it is tried. Just look at China, 80 million dead at the hands of the government and all survivors are little more than serfs.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:24 AM on 10/13/2009

So gun ownership equals the "power to kill"? What about all the other 2nd Amendment BS?
Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

Our pop guns won't do much to government pinpoint airstrikes if it came to that.

My .40 cal can't reach a fighter jet in the sky.

I'm an advocate for REASONABLE safe gun ownership, but the 2nd amendment is outdated in a sense.
