The first family set out for St. John's Church on Sunday morning, walking two blocks from the White House to attend prayer services. The first lady wore a pink skirt by Moschino, according to NY Mag, with a printed cardigan, decorative brown bow, and pale pink kitten heels. See photos below.

From ANN SANNER, AP:

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama and his family attended Sunday services at St. John's Church, an Episcopal church on Lafayette Square just across the street from the White House.

Obama, first lady Michelle and daughters Sasha and Malia listened to a sermon about how Christianity has consequences.

Mike Angell, a seminarian of the church, told the parishioners that the consequences vary, whether it's making a hard decision at work or deciding to give more time to God.

Angell told the worshippers they don't face these consequences alone. "We are given each other as a source of boldness," he said.

The Obamas shook hands with those around them as the parishioners were told to show each other a sign of peace. The worshippers prayed for all people, including "Barack, our president, the leaders of Congress, the Supreme Court and all who are in authority."

The family took a quick ride to the services, but opted to stroll back together to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Obama, who also worshipped at the pale yellow church on Easter Sunday and on Inauguration Day, hasn't settled on a new permanent congregation for the first family since the Obamas came to Washington.

St. John's is a popular pick for presidents -- both because it's near the White House and because it's familiar to the Secret Service.

A pew nine rows back from the altar carries a small brass plaque designating it as "The President's Pew." Former President George W. Bush often attended services, and church history claims that every president since James Madison, the nation's fourth chief executive, has visited.

The first service in the landmark church was held in 1816 and many former presidents have worshipped there.

I love the 5th pic of Obama checking out the guy who is about to hug his wife. He always seems protective of her.

They're heathens because they don't go to church...they are fakes because they do go to church. If President Obama just wanted to make a good impression, wouldn't he go to church every Sunday and not play golf? Maybe he's just messing with your head.

Judge not lest yee be judged? Seems to me that is supposed to be a basic in the Christian faith based world. I was taught that "Sunday best" is your attitude when you enter your houses of worship, not your attire. It was also understood that the golden rule was your guide to treaatment of other, all other, and some persons on here must live an awfully hurtful life.

"Our God demands boldness from us," Angell said.

Amen to that.

I'm not a church goer except for being the husband that dutifully goes with his wife on occasion, But from what i see it is come as you are these days, in the sense that most kids are dress very casual and it seems that it has nothing to to do about how you dressed but your attendance is all that is required.

I think the President's family look fine - actually better than fine. I would love to see all children look as happy with their parents.

God bless this family and America - and, yes, even you haters. If more of us played the part of the good christian citizen (as I hope I am doing) we might just see a brighter day. Lord Jesus, bless this good family. I love the pictures...just love to see the closeness and love that is obviously shared between these good people for one another.

I love how Malia's sense of style is shaping up. The outfit with the leggings in the photo is so beautiful on her.

LovGuv et al., I see they upped your Thorazine dosage again. Best if you take a nap so others in the unit can use the computer.

It has been a bad few weeks for Obama being slapped down in Copenhagen and then humiliated by the Peace Prize just before he expanded the Afgan war, and with all his troubles the PR team sprang into action and we see the family walking back from Church ....no one can complain about that family values photo opt....!

Exactly, and not just the church going ones. There's a slew of them which are purportedly behind-the-scenes shots and which the WH periodically releases when needed.

They can't even go to church and be a loving family according to you.

SInce when did going to church and being a loving family only have to occur in full-on photo-op mode, and when did it have to occur right after a public humiliation of the Obamas--and then BObama, who was shamed before the world by getting a Nobel prize he did not earn or deserve.

I wonder how the 13,000 American troops who just today were revedaled to have been sent to Afghanistan to pump up Obama's national security street cred feel about Obama being given the Peace prize?

The Obamas are shameless in using their family, including their two daughters, to pump up their popularity polls, figuring that the majority of Americans are clueless and won't see that the Obamas are trying to manipulate them.

Wrong. I am not dishonest and unethical like the Obama syc ophants posting here, who use seven screen names to try to make it appear that there are more individual posters who believe the same way they do.

Turn to Amistad, LovGuv and the rest of her screennames to see the pathetic multiple personality posting disorder in action.

Now, back to how the Obamas use their two daughters to improve their own popularity polls---I can say with a profound sense of pride that no other president has used their children to sheild themseves from criticism for the job they are doing as president.

The Obamas are the only ones selfish enough to do that.

I don't agree. They look like they are going to a casual church service. It is not unsual for casual attire to be worn to church in California. I can't say for what is the norm for that church in D.C.

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 12:40 PM on 10/13/2009

You can't make everybody happy. Some think they look nice and some think they look a mess. And again I say ,if they went to church with their clothes off something will be said.
Mrs. Bush, the last presidents wife always looked very nice and yet some of the comments were ugly about her. So you see, just continue to give your opinion, that is right.
I am sure the Obama's pray, they better for their good. NOT OURS
