NEW YORK — New York City police say a 49-year-old gay man leaving a corner deli near his home was beaten by two men in an apparent hate crime.

Jack Price remains in a medically induced coma. He is in serious but stable condition.

Police say the two suspects taunted Price and yelled anti-gay slurs while he was in the store early Friday. They attacked him outside, not far from his home in the middle-class Queens neighborhood of College Point.

Twenty-six-year-old Daniel Aleman was arrested Sunday and charged with assault and aggravated assault as a hate crime. The name of his attorney was not on record.

A second suspect is being sought. The police department's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating.

An Evangelical "Christian's" Night-time Prayer

Now I lay me down to sleep
Pray to God my soul to keep
I voted for Bush the Texacutioner
Who put more people to death than an executioner

The highest execution rate of any governor in history
How he was elected president is still a mystery
The biggest serial killer since Timothy McVeigh,
mocks Karla's pleas for clemency during her final days

I hold stoutly to my world view
Despite being contradicted by what is proven true
I believe the earth to be only 4000 years old
“Intelligent” design is the view I hold

Even though evolution explains how life changed and adapted
verified by countless experiments not retracted
the scientific facts should be stricken as inadmissible
teaching creationism to our children is permissible

Take some parts literally, others out of place
And I can use the Bible to judge the whole human race
Pat Robertson said 9/11 was a punishment from God
That innocents died instead of him he didn’t find odd

For lifestyles of feminism, liberalism, and being gay
Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson said over 3,000 people died that day
That God will punish them for their remark
Pride has hidden from a judgmental heart

..poem continued in next post

An Evangelical "Christian's" Night-time Prayer continued

“After the last tree standing is felled”
“Christ will come back” I heard James Watt tell
you see evangelicals don’t care about generations
because they won’t have to be here to face elimination

“compassionate” conservatives fantasize about journeying through the air
As Left Behind: The Series plays out below everywhere
While pollution they caused brings about ecological collapse
It doesn’t bother them that people will die perhaps

I know Danny Rodriguez, I have known him for 5 years and we are close friends. What Danny did was wrong and it was a mistake to take his actions to that extreme and I cant believe Danny hurt this man the way he did. That being said, Danny didn't beat Jack Price because he was gay, he beat him becuase Jack was writing a graffiti message at the deli with his phone number, offering gay sexual acts. This was not the first time Jack has done this because I have seen similar writings by him around College Point and in Flushing. Others have seen them too. Danny saw him writing the graffiti, asked him to stop and Jack blew him a kiss. They then got into a verbal arguement and Danny lost his temper and decided to take actions into his own hands. Danny already knew Jack because I have heard Danny talk about him before and the things Jack has done in the neighborhood. Danny would not attack an innocent man buying cigarettes just because he is gay and I know this. I know Danny and he is a good kid but he has made some stupid decisions and what he did to Jack was not ok. The bottom line is Danny Rodriguez did not beat Jack Price just beacuse he is gay.

The bottom line is that Danny Rodriguez beat a man over gay issues. From what you say, Jack got beaten because he was promoting his homosexuality. Ask your friend if the initial argument was about the graffiti or its content? I will bet you it was the content and your friend decided to 'take actions into his own hands" based on his personal bias. You may need to reevaluate your argument after you hear the whole story. Ask yourself if the reaction your friend had would have been the same if a girl or a straight guy was doing the same thing? Even if their was a perceived slight or threat, beatings like this, which continue after the person is down and obviously done is so "Rodney King" you know it is fueled by either hate or fear.

ave12nyc, your defense of the indefensible is silly.
AS IF there is some exception to the law against beating someone if you can only write a round-about that dances around the crime and pretends it isn't what it is. I'm sure!

The hate just never ends, does it.
I hold accountable all those who have dedicated their lives to hate, including, but not limited to, the Christian Right in its entirety, the NOM and most of the Republican leadership.

This is what happens when you use people to drive a wedge of hate in order to secure elections or big paydays. The objects of your hate get injured or killed.

Listening, Sarah Palin?

Anyone else that you hate that you want to hold accountable?

Such a flawed sense of logic.

So does calling out and attempting to hold accountable haters makes one a hater?

Does holding "evil doers" accountable as Bush attempted to do after 911 make him an "evil doer"?

Was the US and Brittish stopping of Nazi fascism and genocide itself fascism and genocide?

For the 21 year old, I say hold his parents responsible. Their epic fail as responsible parents is obvious and Mr. price's blood is on their hands as much as their disturbed son. The hate these two suspects displayed isn't quickly learned. It's indoctrinated and ingrained in their psyches for years by either their church or family (or both).

Heterosexuals need to be held accountable for their decision to procreate and all that comes after.

dispicable. I am sure the kid who was arrested will buckle and name the other person. While we may not agree with someone's lifestyle, we also do not have the right to attack/kill people bc of it. The guy did nothing to them, they should have left him alone....

Unless the guy did something to them, which he did not, they should have gone about their business.... now they will pay... no sympathy for them.

Yes, no sympathy for them. But the idea of hate crimes is still ridiculous. A crime is a crime. Why does it somehow make anyone think the crime is more severe if it is classified as a "hate crime?" And, more importantly, if one gay male beats another gay male to death, should he be punished less than a straight male who beats a gay male to death?

Reply    Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:57 PM on 10/13/2009

Yes, a crime is a crime, but committing a crime against someone based only on what community that person belongs to deserves a more harsh penalty- to hopefully deter future crimes. Hate crimes terrorize a community of people, not just an individual.

If a gay male beats a gay male to death..it's murder. Let's assume that these two hypothetical people knew eachother...perhaps it was a crime of passion.

If a straight male murders a gay male is it a hate crime? It depends. If the straight male targeted the gay male just because the straight male thought the gay male was gay, then yes. He targeted the man not as an individual, but as an individual in a certain community. It would be the same if someone was targeting Jewish men or people from Italian descent. These crimes terrorize a community, not an individual...

No, a crime is not necessarily just a simple crime for the same reason that religiously motivated burning of churches or synagogues is not simple arson. It is an attack on an entire group of people and it intimidates and terrorizes said people. Therefore the impact of the crime is multiplied immensely. Ergo, so should the punishment that follows. King Solomon would recognize this simple concept in his sleep.

"Hate crime" designation is important because it teaches our society that discrimination is wrong.

Sad thing is that these boys likely have issues about themselves and are hurting their own kind because they h ate themselves.

yup. it's been demonstrated over and over--the guys who do these things are almost invariably self-hating gays.
