Karl Lagerfeld: 'No One Wants To See Curvy Women'

Curvy women have no place on the catwalk, iconic German fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld was quoted as saying Sunday, after a magazine said it was banning skinny models in favour of "real women".

"No one wants to see curvy women," Lagerfeld was quoted as saying on the website of news magazine Focus.

I love the brilliance and creativity of these comments. I am so sorry I was not here to participate at the time.
I am glad you all know how much Karl hates women, how all men in the fashion industry are gays who hate women, etc, etc.
I'm not even sure that "curvy" is the word he was going for, as the original was in German, with "runde" translating literally to "round" which in my mind does NOT mean simply curvy- but curvy itself has been usurped so successfully by the plus-sized community that even native English speakers can no longer be sure what our fellows mean by using this word.

Karl is right.The fashion business is all about selling a dream, an image. A few years ago a store put out their catalogue using real women as models and the clothes looked terrible. There was no glamour in normal or even heavy folks wearing their clothing. This is a business and it is about selling and projecting an ideal which is unattainable for most people. That said, I also feel many models in high fashion are too thin..

As a gay man, I think women with curves are beautiful. I do not find these waif-types the least bit attractive. Women in our society think they have to be skinny because that's what the media, fashion, and Madison Ave tells them. And when curves are glorified, half the time they're silicone. Maybe I've been living in L.A. too long. But women deserve better than images of malnourished and silicone fakes.

I think he is correct, but the catwalk is not the real world, and the fact that women have curves is a reality that no amount of anorexia or bulimia will change.

The problem occurs when normally curvy women see a style on the catwalk and then insist on wearing it, even if it looks terrible on a curvy body.
