Obama

McClatchy :

When President Barack Obama visits New Orleans next week to survey how its recovery is going four years after Hurricane Katrina, he'll have a lot to tout about the help his administration's given -- and plenty to worry about as the nation's top Democrat in a city quaking with political change.

Obama's Oct. 15 visit could both energize and polarize New Orleans, a city with an African-American majority that voted for him, but also one in a Southern state that didn't. During the campaign, Obama said that New Orleans symbolized President George W. Bush's failures, and he promised to do better.

It's about da mn time!
New Orleans complete recovery and rebuilding...for the sake of our nation...should have been on Obama's TOP 5 THINGS TO DO when I get elected list.
I believe we should hold off on aid to other countries until we get our own house in order PERIOD.
Private charities can continue with their help BUT we need to rebuild America.
We are crumbling as a nation while we throw money at the world....money that solves nothing.

"Of the people, by the people and for the people" ...our Declaration of Independence states it clearly.

Damn!!! Another trip and I am sure it will have to include another "Great Speech"... Hey Mr. President ever heard of the concept of rolling up your sleeves and knuckling down and doing the job you were elected to do? How about you try and attempt staying at The White House and meeting with the congressional leaders of your majority party to actually accomplish this... http://obamaspeeches.com/E10-Barack-Obama-The-American-Promise-Acceptance-Speech-at-the-Democratic-Convention-Mile-High-Stadium--Denver-Colorado-August-28-2008.htm

You democratic primary opponets were correct when they warned us you weren't ready for the office you hold... Remeber that? That was when the "Race Card" was first played to vilify an opponent...

Your failure to lead has resulted in the debacle of a bill being voted on today... But what the heck you get to take another trip and make another speech,,,

Did W ever step foot in NO after he finished his vaca & did his fly-by photo op?

I love President Obama, and it's time someone pays attention to what's not been happening (clean-up, rebuilding, etc.) in NO! Good man!

Yes, he did. He got a tour from General Russell Honore and Governor Kathleen Blanco.

It was reported that a Potemkin moment was staged for him: the levee investigation and repairs were ceased while extra trucks, equipment and workers were clustered around, "looking busy." The moment the presidential motorcade moved on, the extra workers all left.

He should've been left in a heap on the side of the road 4 years ago ... he would've been indistinguishable from all the mess Katrina left behind.

New Orleans will be waiting for what will, no doubt, be one of his best speeches yet.

"Peter Burns, a political science professor at Loyola University in New Orleans, said that Obama's still beloved in the city, but added: "A lot of people in New Orleans do not have a lot of faith in government at all, and even less faith in the federal government."

He's wrong, citizens are more than miffed that the President waited so long, as well they are angered at how President Bush played politics with New Orleans' recovery. The buck stops in the Oval Office, and citizens are smart enough to know it.

Musing on Obama...a man I voted for...first politician _ever_ I donated money to..

Now I'm wondering if I made a mistake. Obama, IMHO, spends far too much time on the road "surveying" and so on, those things that many in his hired staff could just as easily do and then report back to him.

President Obama, have you never heard of delegating? We have a huge disaster in the economy and healthcare of this country and in my view you are wasting precious taxpayer dollars flying here and there when it could be done by staff at a much cheaper rate.

I'm thinking about my next vote. Please think about doing your job more efficiently.

Damned if he does...and definitely damned if he does not. Folks you need to decide what you want the man to do! In the meantime, Mr. President, keep up the good work. Most of us are not deluded by the media negativism and hype around us.

I wish he'd visit the Mississippi coast as well so he can see how our Republican politicians (That includes you too, Dist. 4 Rep. Gene Taylor , because you are certainly NO Democrat!) have diverted millions in recovery dollars that were supposed to go to rebuilding affordable housing, but instead have gone to build luxuries for the wealthy.

Another trip...

Didn't I hear on the news that it costs $67,000 per hour to fly
Air force one...Maybe he will take different transportation this trip.

Wonder what he expects to see in New Orleans. Same stuff we see
in pictures on TV.
Jobs needed so no reason that it isn't further along than what it is,
unless the money just goes to the wrong places, if it was there at all.

Maybe some more stimulus (handouts) would help. Start making
people accountable and maybe some progress could be made.

I'm so glad the president is going to NOLA. Now if he will just take a meeting with James Perry while he's there, I'll be extra-happy! James Perry 2010!

It is the most puzzling phenomena that everything that President Obama does is either too little or too much, according to the media and his ever-present critics. The constant barage of degrading everything positive that he does, says, or experiences as President has got to stop. This President did not politicize the Nobel Peace Prize, it was already political from the moment of its inception. Mr. Obama did not ask for this award, it was conferred upon him! There is not a single critic of his having won the d...am..n thing who wouldn't trade places with him. I've never seen such blatant jealousy and malcontent about any President....even GWB.
