Liz Cheney's 'Keep America Safe' Video Tears Into Obama (VIDEO)
Liz Cheney is stepping even further into her father's shoes as the Republican ringleader for national security. Keep America Safe, a new group launched by Cheney, aims to rally opposition to the "radical" foreign policy of the Obama administration and trumpets the need for an aggressive approach to national security that harkens back to the Bush years.
Ben Smith of Politico notes that the group's formation "marks the end of an unusual partisan truce on America's central national security challenge, Afghanistan."
But this new course doesn't come as a surprise, as Keep America Safe is just the latest jab in Cheney's recent campaigns on behalf of the G.O.P. A New York Times story last month examined her status as a "rising star" of the Republican party, carrying the torch of the Cheney brand.
The mission statement of Keep America Safe touts "an unapologetic approach to fighting terrorism around the world, for victory in the wars this country fights, for democracy and human rights, and for a strong American military that is needed in the dangerous world in which we live." The web video released today to rally support for its cause targets Obama, citing the probe into CIA interrogation abuses and Obama's indecision on Afghanistan as factors in making America unsafe. The video ends with a montage of Obama golfing and vacationing, because, apparently, that's all he ever does.
"Last fall, the American people overwhelmingly rejected a radical foreign policy authored by Dick Cheney that alienated our allies, emboldened our enemies, depleted our resources, distracted our focus and made the nation less secure. The Cheneys lost that debate and their approach was deemed a failure. The Cheneys can continue to focus on securing their sullied legacy if they want to. But, the President will continue to focus on securing the country," said DNC National Press Secretary Hari Sevugan in response.
Cheney heads the group alongside Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol and Debra Burlingame, the sister of an American Airlines pilot killed on 9/11.
