Steve Kim, Republican Attorney General Candidate, Taking On Lisa Madigan

Illinois Republicans have found a candidate to challenge Lisa Madigan for attorney general.

Steve Kim, a Northbrook businessman, declared his candidacy Tuesday. Kim is the first Asian American to run for statewide office as a Republican.

DuPage County state's attorney Joe Birkett announced in July his intention to run for attorney general but quickly reneged after two-time incumbent Lisa Madigan opted not to run for higher office and instead seek re-election. Birkett called a race against Madigan "virtually unwinnable."

Kim's campaign web site contains no details of his platform, only three bullet points: "Protect small business. Protect senior citizens. Protect disabled people."
