YOU totally forgot the California Bishop Creek/South Lake/Aspendall areas on Hwy 168 near Bishop California.

Huffpost must hate California????

Is ONE of the best places to view Aspen Trees going off in vivid orange, yellows, and reds in the high country.

I've always loved Oklahoma's scenic Route 1 (between Talihina, OK and Mena, AR) and Hot Springs for fall displays.

Where I live...
the colours are beautiful right now...
the reds and oranges and yelllows reflecting into the water of the lakes and rivers...

many of the trees this year...
are spotted...

I cannot help but think of the Dr. Seuss book...
"Put me in the Zoo" as I walk the streets of town each morning...
to take in the morning air...the friendly townspeople rushing about and for my early morning exercise...

Many spotted trees...
big black vivid spots...
there was a fair bit of pollution in our air this year...
whenever there was cloud cover of any sort...
you'd see the brown clouds sitting below the white ones...
sneaky...illegal...stupid?

Not all of the trees have succumbed to the spots...
and I hope they don't...
there is nothing like a fall maple tree...

maybe it is the trees which grow from the roots of another...

maybe there is a lesson in that...
maybe we are made ugly and spotted when we are tied to the life force of an older tree...

before our time...
too.

(No...I was going to say we should not live off the roots of another family...we should establish our own...but ny family are against parasitism...and, yet, I do have freckles...and I can hear you...so I will explain it away for you)

Pretty much anywhere in New England is stunning. I've been fortunate to have been there several times.

BUT having said that, one autumn I was in upstate New York driving between Niagra Falls and Buffalo and took the very long way around and I had my breath taken away. That autumn was perhaps the most beautiful autumn I have ever seen. It was the autumn of 1993.

And I've seen autumns from Japan to Europe, Alaska, CA, and even Hawaii, (although I think it's not called autumn there, just getting ready for the heavy surf season) and that autumn was still the best one yet.

New England, the central and southern Appalachians, and the birch forests of Russia are the best for me.

I kinda figuered that sunny southern California wouldn't be on that list; everything burned down. We'll be back in 2 oe 3 years with new nature stuff

Vermont beats them all, hands down.

I'm glad it wasn't listed, if anymore leaf peepers drive slow on my roads, I think i might have a brain aneurysm.

I'm a Colorado boy born and raised, and feel we've got the best of just about everything.
That said, east coast mountains beat us when it comes to fall colors.

Colorado here also, Magneato. I agree that the east coast fall foliage MAY edge us out. However, I think you will agree that the picture here, while beautiful, doesn't really capture the beauty of the turning aspen at their peak viewed on a beautiful sunny Colorado autumn day!

You're right, Arvadaco. Nothing beats walking through an aspen grove in autumn.
The way the leaves quake and cast that golden glow. The air a bit crisp. That clear, perfect blue sky. It even smells beautiful. Oh man, I gotta get up there.

As a New Englander living in Australia, Autumn is what I miss the most. People here don't understand the magnificence of it because they have never seen it. I remember the radio announcements telling us where the colors were peaking and Dad would pack us all into the car so we could go see. Wonderful memories.

I hear you - having spent my childhood and teen years on Long Island and Upstate New York, and afterwards lived in Brazil and Arizona, I do miss the fall colors. There are a few places in the mountains in AZ where we can see aspens and oaks, but nothing compares to the forests on the East coast.

When we lived back east we had two friends from Perth visit us. We drove them all around western MA and VT. They made us stop every 5 mins to take photos. At one point, Christina started to cry.
She had never seen such an awesome natural display of color. I rest my case, New England is THE best for fall colors.

As a recent visitor to the New England states, I would like to say something that the residents, up there already know. It is truly a beautiful and historic part of this country.
Tourists, like me, are a nuisance to locals, but found the people as friendly as anywhere in the rest of the country. -I had a misconception that easterners were snobbish. Not true.
I want to visit again.

the most beautiful leaves I have seen are in the Calavaras Big Trees State Park in CA. There are magestic green sequoia redwood trees above you and a large amount of dogwood and other small trees all around you, many at eye level, which are beautiful bright reds and yellows. You need to go early in fall; by the last week in Oct. the trees are at the end of color change and although pretty, not at the peak
(besides, some of the roads in that area will get snow and make traveling to more difficult.)
It is also beautiful in the spring when the dogwoods and other small trees are in bloom.

I grew up in a small country town in the Massachusetts Berkshires, nine miles from the VT border. In the fall, it would be like living in a furnace. I love this season best of all.

Would that be Lanesboro, MA by any chance? I lived in the Berkshires as well. One of the most beautiful parts of the country for sure.

Northern Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Marquette County and the Keweenaw Peninsula. A beautiful mix of hardwoods against a dark blue/green backdrop of conifer. Why not look for beauty in your own back yard? Each area is unique in its own way.

That's true for me, too. I've been to Colorado, Vermont, the Berkshires, and the Catskills in the fall and the foliage in any of those places didn't match what I had in my backyard in Western Pennsylvania. Even in the heart of the city of Pittsburgh -- one of the most tree-filled cities in America -- the predominance of maple, oak, and other hardwood trees makes for a spectacular autumn. It's not ALL black and gold in the fall in Pittsburgh -- there's lots of red and orange, too.

Love the UP fall colors and would also add the Ontonagon area to your list. Pasty.com has good links for pictures and other good information.

I was going to suggest pasty.com, but lost my screen and didn't repost. I have a screen saver made from pics from that site--the photography is above average, but then the scenery makes it easy to take great pics. I've never been to Lake of the Clouds, but I hear it's gorgeous. I wish I could make the color tour, but as it's already snowed there, I don't know how much color is left.

Nothing changes in South Florida, unfortunately. When it gets cold, Iguanas fall out of the trees, that's about it

Or if you can't go any place far, the Merritt Parkway in Connecticut is beautiful
