Obama Corzine

President Obama will visit New Jersey next week to campaign on behalf of Gov. Jon Corzine, the governor's office tells to the Huffington Post.

Obama will host a rally for Corzine at the Rothman Center at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Hackensack on October 21, Corzine spokesperson Elisabeth Smith confirmed. Smith would not say whether the president's stop was a one-time affair or the beginning of a more active engagement in the race.

Nevertheless, with Vice President Joseph Biden having already stumped for the Garden State governor, and with Corzine's re-election prospects improving with each poll, it seems likely that Obama will play an increasingly active role as Election Day nears.

The decision to campaign on Corzine's behalf reflects a heightened activism from the president and his political team in the two major off-year elections. On Tuesday, the president's political arm - Organizing for America -- put out robocalls for Democratic candidate Creigh Deeds in Virginia.

A presidential visit, of course, is more powerful than automated calls. And the White House suggested, during Tuesday's briefing with reporters, that the president had made time on his schedule to drop by Virginia as well.

"I don't have a schedule that goes that far out, or I haven't seen it," said Press Secretary Robert Gibbs. "Obviously I think toward the end of that -- of the cycle, we have some days blocked off for stops. But I don't have those stops with me."

In the end, New Jersey may be more favorable ground for the White House. Corzine's chances of survival have improved dramatically as Election Day approaches. The New Jersey Democrat trails his opponent by a scant one percent in a recent Quinnipiac University poll, and the data trends suggest that he could take the lead shortly.

Does Obama spend ANY time in DC that he's not making a speech in the rose garden?

Seems to me, Obama takes just as many vacations and unnecessary trips outside of DC as Bush did. The only difference is, Obama takes the White House Press pool with him

I was thinking the same thing. We are constantly reading about his trips. Is he claustrophobic and can't stay in the office? You have to wonder why he can't stay and govern behind closed doors and away from the camera.

If ya ask me, he should be spending his time going back and forth from the white house to the pentagon to congress. If he needs to get out of the office for awhile and away from the stuffiness of the oval office, fine, but his influence would be much more strongly felt if it were in person, not from a message on his Blackberry

It is really disheartening to hear people say they are glad we lost all the jobs the Olympics would have bought to this country or at least the state of IL..As people traveled to Chicago they would have spent money every where. This just tells every one what the republicans stand for and it is not for helping Americans as shown by how joyful they were about the loss of so many jobs and money for a lot of people.I just hope the voters remember that when voting in the 2010 electionsttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/05/business/economy/05simmons.html?hp and the GOP and CEO'S think anyone wants them to run this country like someone ran this country
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/05/opinion/05krugman.html?_r=1&ref=opinion shows how unamerican the GOP actually is
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/29988909/sick_and_wrong/How the US healthcare system has failed and the republicans don't want to see any health insurance reform but are ok forcing every one to have auto insurance?????

Do you want a party that thinks like this to represent you. aside from the fact that this man does not believe mamograms should be cover3ed by insurance but I will bet anything to do with testing for a man would be ok in his eyes. JMO

With this help, Corzine will come in 4th place. On the plus side, Obama will be awarded the Key to Camden even though he's never been there.

Corizine is nothing but empty promises and in some cases, flat out lies. Ask any of the middle class about the property tax relief he promised....well, he raised their taxes instead. There is a reason people are moving out of NJ in record numbers

Send Michelle and she can remind the women in the state that Christie doesn't want mammograms covered by insurance.

In order for Corzine to stand a chance, I would think he would want to distance himself from Obama!

Corzine wins in a squeeze, with Obama's help in blue state NJ. Bodes well for Obama in bigger election 2010. Christie - No plan, Corzine - Needs stronger leadership. Give him 4 more years.

Good! Welcome to NJ, Mr. President. We have a three way going here which may, hopefully, write off the Repug, Chris Christi. I would rather not have someone that has never bothered to spell out a plan stepping into this hornet's nest, especially a Republican. It was a Republican (Gov. Whitman) that put us in this spot in the first place with her dumb 30% tax cut (great for the mega rich, ridiculous for the middle and working class).

Yay. NJ residents can't afford to live there now. Why not re-elect union sympathizer Jon Corzine? If there is any reason on earth to question Obama's motives, this is the one.

Without unions, there would be no child labor laws, no minimum wage, and no 40-hour work week (it'd be a 50 hour work-week).
