Dan Collins: The Mayoral Race That Wasn't
The lack of enthusiasm for Bill Thompson has roots in more than a super-rich opponent. New York City believes in the values of the Democrats, but doesn't trust them to produce strong leaders on the local level.
Under Bloomberg and mayoral control (vs. how it was run under Bill Thompson under the old board of education), the public school system is viewed as a "portfolio" rather than as a centrally run monolith.
Alan Singer: An Open Letter to Mayor Moneybags
Dear Mayor Bloomberg: For $10,00, cash or personal check, I will vote for you, pure and simple. For $50,000 plus expenses, I will have my car (a 2001 Toyota Echo) painted with your picture.

Here is the deal on the Mayoral election......Bloomberg strong armed the City Council to buck the will of the people....we voted twice for term limits.....he should not be running.....on the other hand Thompson is a poor replacement....looks like we are stuck with Bloomie for 4 more years.....
As long as an individual changes term limits, my respect for them goes out the window...Bloomberg is starting look dictatorial than a trusted leader.
I saw the debate and it was interesting when Bloomberg made reference for anyone to read the local NY newspapers about Thompson, but when it came to Bloomberg and the same papers made reference about him running for VP he totally dismissed those papers.
He is running as GOP and will also support Giuliani for Governor...I hope Cuomo runs for governor.
How does Bloomberg explains this under his watch?
