According to the NYT we now have fewer than 13,000 IRS revenue agents, down from 17,000 in 1988. Audits of middle-class taxpayers rose to nearly 436,000 last year, up from about 147,000 returns in 2000.

Read the article (It will make your blood boil): http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/16/business/16tax.html

When Republicans mind the store the middle-class always suffers.

Let us be clear about this - there is no justice! This is just to shut us up.

they have had months to move their money out of USB and on to someplace else.
Is there a list like the Madoff list available? I'm willing to bet the real big fish escaped.

The wealth gap will widen to levels never before imagined while the middle class ceases. Our politicians need to do more to ensure equality.

good articles; http://bit.ly/1NkbAn

A person making 60,000 pays 20,000 of it in various taxes. A person making a million or more has a tax rate of 30% compared to 90% decades ago.

Buffett said he pays 15% while his secretary pays double! The difference is whether to buy a loaf of bread of having another villa in South France or Carribbean. What about all of the other tax havens like Belgium, Cayman Island, etc? What about the list that was furnished to our politicians from a clerk of the Liechtenstein Bank in February 08? Me thinks our senators are involved, just
look at Charlie Rangel. Isn't that despicable?

President Obama and his adminstration deserve credit for actually getting something done on this.

From what I understand, there are hundreds of billions owed by people with bank accounts in places like Bermuda and many other locations. It would make sens to go after this money owed on assets hidden in all those places, especially given the state of the economy.

What could be more unAmerican than to hide your millions so you don't have to pay taxes while the average, struggling American has to carry your weight and pick up the tab for all the infrastructure and services you use.

They got off easy. those among us who don't' have that kind of money and have our savings in places like mutual funds are down 33% or more, but we pay our fair share every year. The Bush administration made a special effort to go after the little people instead of men (mostly) like these. They cut a bunch of tax auditors to help their friends feel even safer. It is about time they went after the tax cheaters who could afford trips to other places and arrange to meet at the board rooms and high level offices of UBS in this country. I wonder how much of the Walton's and Koch's money is hidden in tax havens everywhere since they hate taxes more than most.

I don't understand that either, my belief is that if they do business here they should pay taxes here, especially being contracted by the government.

Good. Now the government can give this money to firms that are too big to fail so that they can give it to their company failures as bonuses.
