Don Hewitt Memorial Service Set For October 19 In New York

A memorial service for "60 Minutes" creator and CBS News legend Don Hewitt, who died in August, will be held Monday, October 19, in New York.

The service will begin at 11AM and take place in the Frederick P. Rose Hall at Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Speakers will include CBS CEO Les Moonves, "60 Minutes" Executive Producer Jeff Fager, "60 Minutes" correspondent Morley Safer, "Sesame Street" creator Joan Ganz Cooney, close Hewitt friend Alan Alda, and members of Hewitt's family.

Can't believe the tone of the comments here. Don Hewitt was part of the foundation of the news business. He produced quality work. You should wish that there were more like him NOW and not the pathetic examples of so-called journalism we have on the airwaves and TV now.

I grew up watching 60 minutes. Unfortunately my lasting memory of that show is when they left whistleblower Jeffrey Wigand hanging rather than stand up to Big Tobacco. To me 60 Minutes died that day.i
