Tina Fey, 24-Year-Old Virgin: I 'Couldn't Give It Away'

First Posted: 3/18/10 Updated: 5/25/11

Tina Fey may be one of the most popular girls around these days, but as she reminisced to David Letterman Wednesday, she was a virgin until she met her husband when she was 24.

As Dave read a list of people who stayed virgins from a tabloid, like Brooke Shields (22) and Adriana Lima (27), Fey's name came up as having been 24.

"[I] Couldn't give it away," Fey sighed. "That's just good, Christian values, or, being homely."

She also talked about wearing fake hair for her Bazaar cover shoot.

If she had been on Letterman's staff, she would have lost it a lot sooner.

I think that's really sweet.

dDave's obsession with Palin was more to do with his wanting in her personal ballot box..... I'm sure he would have loved to have Fey do her best Palin.. in his dressing room...

Perhaps that was a joke line.

She could have brought the house down had she added "I suppose I could have applied for a job on the Letterman Show and got in on the "sex with staffers" program!

.

Too long - but the right idea:

"I should have gone to work for you..." would work.

I'm thirty and still waiting. I think virginity is viewed differently in non-Western societies. Coming from an East Indian background, but born and raised in the US in a Christian home, I have both liberal views and conservative values. There is no shame attached to being a virgin in my culture, it’s considered quite respectable. I think it comes down to the values and norms of the given community. I'm attractive, successful, and have a well rounded life, and it had everything to do with the culture in which I grew up in, and how I saw the women in my community behave. I never got the message that this is something I need to give away or lose when I became a teenager. It was and still is quite normal to wait until marriage to have sex, or at least to be old enough to make those decisions.

Be careful, these Progressive Left Wingers don't have much tolerance for someone as strong as you. Liberal views and conservative values can only mean yuou have gone astray. God Bless you and stay your course.

What an amazing generalization. You should be very proud of yourself.

We'll leave a discussion on accuracy for another time.

You think you know so much, yet it appears that you know nothing . . . .

Typical republic party generalization based on cranialanal interaction . . . .

It wasn't as much about values and morals for me. My parents made it plain and clear that sex could kill. they made me understand that condoms don't stop all STDs, and the only way to avoid them completely was to be abstinent.
And my mom gave me the whole, it's a beautiful gift that's only worth giving to your one true love bit.

So my sister and I were both virgins til we were 20 years old, and even then, mine was taken from me, not given willingly.

I'm sorry for the circumstances you describe. No disrespect to you, but still....

Many things can kill you if you do them wrong. Does that mean you should avoid them entirely? Driving a car, flying in a plane, eating food, walking by a building where there's construction going on, shaking hands with a sick person... Nothing is *completely* safe.

As a parent myself, I will teach my daughters to do their best to be sure, really sure, that the person loves them and has their best welfare at heart first and foremost. If that's the case then they won't have a problem getting their partner to wear a condom, be faithful, etc. Even then there's no guarantees that their heart (or the condom) won't be broken or that. That's life. There is always risk.

Better to take some small risks and enjoy life than hide to be safe.

Excuse me, but how she held out until 24 amazes me. I was homely too, whatever that means, but I scored before 24. Who cares. She's a great lady- talented, fine, fine, fine and she votes 'right' which means 'left'. Since we're the same age,had we met,you can make book that I'd take a shot at that. We all look better half naked in a hotel about 2 AM.

I say good for her....especially that she married the man that she lost her virginity to. Some people may not be so lucky. Anyhoot...I don't know why some bloggers are confused or shocked that she would wait until 24 when maybe there's alot to life than having to lose it at 16 or 17. Some people have values when it comes to those things. I think she's a great entertainer and a genuine person which btw is hard to find in the flaky Hollywood world.

That's cool. I kept mine till my 26th birthday to the woman I married. It feels awesome to lose it to the one you married.
04:14 PM on 10/18/2009
Yeah, it sure did feel awesome to lose it to the one you married.

If you're a democrat yes, if you're a republican talking about a democrat - also yes.

Hah, so I guess that makes her a better Christian than either Sarah or Bristol Palin - she waited for marriage!
02:03 PM on 02/12/2010
I'm not even Christian and I'm a better Christian than Sarah Palin.

Tina forget those mean guys and MEAN GIRLS, on our first DATE NIGHT we would meet outside of 3O ROCK i would take you to a friday movie or a SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE show and dinner, at the end of the night you would witness THE INVENTION OF LYING by me using my OOBERMIND to make you my BABY MAMA.
12:24 PM on 10/18/2009
Don't worry, Tina, there's a lot of 24+ year old virgins at this site.
07:43 AM on 10/18/2009
Virginity is overrated, nonetheless I respect the fact that she was wise enough to wait.
Its not easy to know which person is 'right', especially when you're young. I think Tina Fey is a good role model, because she is not only smart and sexy, but she has brains. Not everyone is so lucky, so if you loose your virginity to some ass, dont fuss about it. Just make sure sexual partners are limited- you avoid sexual transmitted diseases and a long 'bed list'.
