Write it off to Thursday being a slow news day if you want, but the wall-to-wall coverage of Colorado's 'Balloon Boy' by the national media was a bit overwhelming at times. Granted, a boy allegedly trapped in a balloon with no control over where he lands makes for great TV--and a great animated movie--but with a deteriorating situation in Afghanistan, a struggling economy and Washington mired in a bitter health care debate, the time and immediacy given to Balloon Boy seemed silly at times. Here's a video slide show of some of the most dramatic and hyperbolic coverage from the network media.

as far as the news coverage interrupting the president, it was a welcome respite.

the president needs to get his own cable channel so he can broadcast non-stop. that way, those that choose to bask in his eminent glow can do so 24/7 and the remaining 97 percent who choose to watch something with a little more substance--sponge bob square pants being a worthy substitute, among others--can do that too!
