Dr. Patricia Fitzgerald: Welcome Bo Obama! The Wonderful Benefits of Animal Companionship
Many of us know that animals add to our emotional and spiritual well-being, and studies have demonstrated that having a pet is good for our physical health as well!
Christina Bellantoni: VIDEO: Up Close and Personal With Bo Obama
I was at the White House to witness the arrival of the First Dog of the United States.
Wendy Diamond: The Obamas Get Jazzy With New First Dog Named: Bo!
Kudos to the Obama family. They researched the best breed that fit their family, they consulted Ted Kennedy, who has Portuguese Water Dogs, and they "adopted" a dog that had been returned.
Janice Taylor: 6 Ways to Flow Like Bo: Learn About Creativity and Joy from First Puppy Bo Obama
Bo Obama, the first puppy, rollicks on the White House lawn in a natural state of joy and exuberance with complete abandon; essentially in a constant state of Flow!

By releasing these photos, President Obama feels he can entertain his voters, knowing what they like to fill their heads with. He is a genius.
At leats there is one good looking member of that family!
ALL children are beautiful, and that includes the Obama girls. Your comment was unkind, even if you think you were displaying sparkling wit.
I hope he enjoys his four years as President.
The family and the POTUS seem to be enjoying themselves quite a bit and I'm sure they will have a great time for the second term, too.
The First Family should also get a Cat !
Not if they renege on a hedged promise to millions of pet owners and animal support groups and end up buying a pure-bred or accepting a hand off gift of a pure-bred from a close, powerful political ally.
When did President Obama PROMISE to get a shelter dog? Please give me links or websites to confirm such a statement. My understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), was they he had spoken about "preferences" along with "keeping Malia's allergies in mind" at the same time.
We all know Bo doesn't have any idea if he's a shelter dog or a purebred. But we can all see, that he is pampered and loved.
Yes, I would love it if ALL shelter dogs could be adopted into loving homes, but please don't take away the fact that Bo needed a home too.
ProudMilVet: Cats are wonderful! I love the "idea" of it. But good luck with getting a hat on a cat. lol!
We also have to consider that cats and dogs don't always get along and adapt to each other, so that might be a "stressful" thing for Bo and the cat too? Actually, I've seen it work out for "some" cats and dogs; it's downright adorable when they get along together, especially when they're playful.
You think that others could handle talkin' about a cat with Bo in the White House? Look at all of this doggee mess from Bo's party (alone) on here? lol!! That's okay. Messy parties are often an indication that everyone has had a good time.
MissGeorge....... The story is about a cute little Animal, not politics. Geez, can Republicans not lighten up at all ?
I'm not a repub. I'm a civil libertarian who voted for Obama. When the Obama's got their dog, it motivated me to, in April, create an HP account just so I could be the lone voice (at the time) crying out against their choice of Bo and the circumstances as to why he came to be with them. I point out continually the hedged promises and the missed alternatives.
Would you care to refute me or just ask why I state the above? Feel free to look at my post history on Bo to gather your thoughts.
You need to find another cause. They provided a home to a puppy that was returned to the Kennedys. The dog is a great fit for their family.
I have read many of your posts. Your devotion and your love for animals is very admirable. You've done great things for many animals, and it's heartwarming to know that you've adopted some, too.
But, your constant desire to turn this light-hearted story about a happy doggie birthday party, into bad politics about President Obama, isn't so impressive. Party pooper.
The goal of all rescue organizations or shelters is to find a "Forever" home for a dog. The Obama children spent time with the Kennedy dogs, it was a good fit and Malia didn't experience allergies to that particular breed. Therefore, a good, "Forever" home was found for Bo and all is well. What good would it do to have adopted an animal without prior understanding of if the creature would work with the child's allergies? That could have ended in heartbreak for all concerned.
Mr. Obama said only that they wanted to do a rescue and in a sense, they did give a "Foerever" home to an animal which didn't have one. It was their choice. The POTUS did not violate a campaign promise. His obligation was to his children, giving them the dog they earned and one which would work out for the family. I do rescue work and I am as much in favor of dogs being saved from the shelters but you are using this matter to further your own issue and not being reasonable.
Purebred dogs are great. I'm very happy that the Obamas have a purebred. Good for them! Get over it, and get over yourself.
so the country is going in the toilet, taxes are going thru the roof, the dollar will crash, and this prez has a party for his dog? good grief, cant wait till him, summers geithner and all of the ilk are out of the white house
B>L>O>W me...
LOL! Fanned.
I love reading these comments...the republicans who post here give me plenty of laughs.
What a cute, cute dog! How fun for Sasha and Malia. And the dogs altho' any day they can swipe a treat is a good day for a dog.
In what way is this news again?
It is a human interest story.
co-sign, and many happy returns of the day!
The poop in Air Force One , I suspect was Chuck Todd's.
Poor Bo, he can't defend himself against false accusations
imagine the abuse George Bush would get if he had the nerve to put a stupid hat on his dog...but everything barry does is genius....amazing
Awwww. Someone misses Dubyah.
if you seriously believe POTUS took time out his day to put a hat on Bo, you are several cans short of a six-pack
I think its funny that a comment tsk-ing an abbreviated name and correcting to full Presidential title, sits just above a comment that mentions, no title, in lower case, "bush."
I hated the hell out of Pres. Bush and all of his bungling incompetence, but I try not to mention him w/out his title, which regardless of FL, he still achieved and retained thru re-election.
bush had a lousy dog that bit people. bush was lousy and his dog was lousy.
ah, come on..........barney was a little curmudgeon; most dogs would bite if approached incorrectly. not that i am any fan of dubya, don't dump on barney.
I think the children put the hat on the dog. Not the president. President Bush's daughters Barbara and Jenna could have put hats on Barney and Ms. Beazly, but they were teenagers in the White House with more mature interests, and, not young children.
how idiotic...with the mess this country is in..they really shouldn't have this photo-op..
Trying to start a political cat fight at Bo's doggie birthday party? It's not gonna work...bwa ha ha...
now that's funny........
miss bush and others of your ilk,
what exactly do you miss about bush, is it the tax cuts for the rich that impacted funds for medicare, or his trying dismantle privatize social security by turning it over to wall street, or is it the costly nation building, but not our nation, or was it the out of control gas prices, or maybe starting wars for no good reason........ do tell.
I'll say the same thing to the conservatives who are complaining about this dog birthday party that I said to the liberals who complained about the Bush family dog's Christmas videos: Lighten Up.
I never complained about Barney's videos. I thought they were cute, in fact Barney was my favorite Bush. I think seeing peoples furry friends helps you see a different side of them.
No. Those Barney videos were just terrible. Just show dogs being dogs. That makes dog people happy. And takes far less effort.
Well, I'm not particularly worried about what makes dog people happy. I thought the videos were superfluous but cute. They might have had some small value to school children and, anyway, they certainly didn't look like they were wasting a lot of money or taking a lot of the President's time.
I mean, you saw those videos. DId the word "effort" really pop into your head? :0)
